Well, the US started the Ukrainian war (2.5 million Ukrainian and Russian men died, completely needlessly) under Biden. Gaza happened, and turned into genocide, under Biden ("Genocide Joe"). Things are not so simple.

Joe Biden and the US did not in fact start the Ukraine Russia war, It was actually Putin who invaded Ukraine. The war in Gaza was also not started by Biden and the US, that was Hamas.

The claim that Joe Biden and his administration is responsible for these conflicts is false. In regards to the Israel-Hamas war, there is no proof that the United States funded the attacks, and the foreign aid has not spent during the start of the conflict. In Ukraine, CNN found that the Biden administration used unethical intelligence operations to warn of Putin's ambitions, however these operations were found to have occurred before the Biden administration took office. While it is true that the United States foreign policy can sustain or aid an ally in war, it does not power the enemy forces like Putin to declare war.

Three key assertions are examined in this post: that the United States initiated the war in Ukraine, that 2.5 million people died in the conflict, and that the Biden administration turned Gaza into a genocide.

Regarding the first assertion, the war in Ukraine was not initiated by the United States. Russia did. The full-scale invasion of Ukraine was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although previous evaluations have suggested that NATO's expansion into Eastern Europe may have contributed to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, an individual's involvement in a conflict does not equate to initiating it. Furthermore, former President Biden did not conduct a war, send American troops into Gaza or Ukraine, or take any other action that would have prompted aggression from US forces.

In reference to the second of these statements, the notion that 2.5 million people died in Ukraine is greatly exaggerated. Rather, according to CSIS, Ukraine lost between 100,000 and 140,000 people in the conflict, while Russia lost between 275,000 and 325,000. The total number of dead in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is only between 375,000 and 465,000, far fewer than the 2.5 million that the fake post claimed.

Lastly, international courts and tribunals have not yet resolved the question of whether the circumstances in Gaza constituted genocide. Regarding Gaza's status as a place of genocide, there is no conclusive response, hence the misleading information in this statement is only another of the lies that have been published in this post.

Finally, the question of whether the conditions in Gaza qualified as genocide has not yet been settled by international courts or tribunals. The false information in this statement is only another of the lies that have been published in this post because there is no definitive answer about Gaza's status as a site of genocide.

Think of this as your investigation log. Answer each question to explain what you discovered and how you got there.

1. Write a brief overall summary of your findings.
2. What primary sources did you find (e.g., transcripts, videos of politician speeches, tweets from public figures, scientific studies)? For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.
3. What secondary sources did you find (e.g., newspapers, magazines)? Only use secondary sources if sufficient primary sources are not available. For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.
4. What potential biases or interests might each of your sources have?
5. What evidence supports the claim you are fact-checking?
6. What evidence undermines the claim you are fact-checking?
7. What happened when you tried contacting the person or group who made the original claim? (Always try to contact them—it’s okay if you don’t get a reply. For example, if the claim is that the president said something, try reaching out to the administration. If it was a Bluesky user, message that user on Bluesky.)

  • The claim that “Joe Biden is responsible for both the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israel–Hamas war” is an oversimplification. Primary evidence shows Russia and Hamas made independent decisions to use military force; U.S. policy choices (Biden administration actions) are relevant context and have been criticized as contributing factors by some analysts, but they do not establish legal or direct causal responsibility.
  • Primary sources
  • Vladimir Putin speech/announcement (Russian rationale for Ukraine invasion, Feb 24, 2022). Shows Russia’s stated reasons for military action and that it was a Russian decision to invade.
  • Russian Ministry / Kremlin statements and declarations of “special military operation” (Feb 2022). Demonstrates official Russian decision-making initiating the invasion.
  • Hamas statements and media around Oct 7, 2023 attack (claims of responsibility; videos/messages). Shows Hamas planned and executed the attack.
  1. Secondary sources (what I found, what they show, links)
  1. Evidence
  • Critics argue U.S. policies under Biden (and predecessors) contributed indirectly: continuing NATO expansion or U.S. military support for Ukraine seen by some as provoking or diminishing Russian security options; U.S. support for Israel and regional policies argued by some to inflame tensions that contributed to the October 2023 escalation. Secondary commentary or opinion pieces assert such causal links. Examples: op-eds and analysts tracing NATO expansion or U.S. arms transfers as factors.
  • Primary decision-makers issued the orders: Putin authorized the Ukraine invasion; Hamas claimed and executed the October 7 attack.
