Unfortunately the Australian Friends of Palestine Association’s campaign to ensure that an Israeli team is not registered for any events in the International Cycling World Tour 2025 and especially in the South Australian Santos Tour Down Under has not met with success. #auspol #israelpalestine #gaza

The Israeli Cycling team will be attending and competing in the South Australian Santos Tour Down Under & multiple other races throughout Australia and New Zealand. The schedule can be found in the link below.

Good job explaining the details of the original claim! It would be helpful in the future to cross-check with official event organizers or directly from the race's website to confirm the team's participation. Also, while the campaign against the team might have had some attention, it seems like there wasn’t any official ban on them, which is an important distinction to make!

I liked how you pointed out that the politician didn’t technically say what the meme claimed — that kind of precision is important. One thing to add, though: while it’s true they didn’t use those exact words, their voting record seems to support the same general stance. So while the quote was fake, the overall implication might still be accurate. It’s a tricky line — even when something’s factually false, it can still point to a broader truth, and it’s worth unpacking both layers.

I appreciate the link and evidence used to show that the Israeli team is in fact going to be in Australia. Highlighting the facts are very important when looking into claims and finding the root, aka schedule problem solves this claim.

https://www.afopa.com.au/afopa-events/2025/1/18/bep1wfsi24tz4lc0q4sx9gr9x46qye is a link to an article regarding "Protest the Israel – Premier Tech cycling team at Adelaide's Tour Down Under 2025" by the AFOPA. Their entire website has multiple events and articles regarding their intention to protest Israel and the Israeli Team competing in Adelaide's Tour Down Under 2025. While the AFOPA is very active there was not much news coverage regarding the protests at the bike tours.

A post on News Detective  presented the statement, "Unfortunately, the Australian Friends of Palestine," which carries a clear negative connotation. To assess the validity and context of this opinion. The initial claim originates from a user-submitted post on News Detective. News Detective itself is a platform for user-generated content and discussions. The specific article linked is a commentary piece, making it inherently opinion-based and thus challenging to fact-check in the traditional sense. The source is ultimately a user's perspective. The linked article being a commentary piece signifies that it expresses personal viewpoints rather than objective facts. Therefore, the credibility of the claim hinges on the reader's interpretation of the opinion and the context surrounding it. The statement "Unfortunately, the Australian Friends of Palestine" is an expression of opinion. Therefore, it is not a fact that can be verfied. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the Australian Friends of Palestine and the context surrounding the opinions about them, it's essential to consult the organization's official website, reputable Australian news sources, and observe the discussions on social media. This multifaceted approach allows for a more informed and balanced perspective.

Although I see how it could be opinion-based and has a negative connotation attached to it, I believe this claim can be proven true or false. Research can be done to see if the Israeli Team was registered and able to compete, showing whether the campaign succeeded. I also believe there are more reputable sources out there compared to the one listed since the Australian Friends of Palestine Association is more likely to favor their own people.
