The quote "He ran through the entire annual budget of ICE in less than two months and accomplished nothing but violating our constitution and frightening the American public." allegedly stated by Mitt Romney was posted on Blue Sky under the account @seedanesti.com. First off when viewing the account, I found that they have made 19 posts today alone, all of which were political and against Trump specifically. It is also important to note that if you google any of these quotes nothing comes up in the results. When I ran the quote through two AI detectors (Justdone, and Expertchat AI) they both found that there is an 83% chance that the quote was written by AI. Therefore, I have found that not only is the original quote false and fabricated, so is every other quote posted on the account. Some quotes have partial truths but are distorted and posted as if they were said by a particular person (for example Mitt Romney).

I completely agree with your response and thought that the effort you made to put this through an AI Detector was very effective, and the results that you got from that solidified that this claim is false and that this quote was never actually made.

I think this is a great answer to the claim. You found the original comment, who made it, and in what context, all to continue that investigation to put it through AI checkers. It is very clear and detailed, which makes your answer credible and trustworthy.

Incorporating AI into you analysis to truly check for any false statements is pretty cool to see. Thank you for hyperlinking the account username; I found it super helpful to see for myself what political activities might have been posted on his account. Well done.

Great use of putting the claim through an AI detector. It makes total sense that if none of those quotes popped up on Google, the user's 19 posts that day alone would prove to be AI-generated. Also, I appreciate the fact that you linked both AI checkers for anyone to use for themselves for fact-checking this statement.

I really like how you clearly and thoroughly indicated the political bias of the original source of the claim. As a consumer, it is easy to move through media without double checking the context of different sources, and that can make claims come off as more aggressive or harsh. I also like how you accounted for the possibility of AI Generated text, which is something we consumers should be especially looking out for as we continue to consume media.

This quote that was attributed to Mitt Romney "He ran through the entire annual budget of ICE in less than two months and accomplished nothing but violating our constitution and frightening the American public" I could not find in any congressional records or public statements or from any news source. While its true that Romney has been vocal about immigration and border security. I could not find any evidence that he made this statement. Given the lack of credible sources confirming this quote I doubt that its true.

There are no sources because I could not find reliable information.

After looking into the source that was included for this claim, I found that the quote was posted from an account that gave no information for this claim, and the account did not have much credibility do to the fact that they just post opinion-based topics without including any further information or source. Despite Romney making political statements about Trump, he has not made this statement which makes this claim false.

You did a good job identifying that the quote came from an unverified and opinion based account. That is important when evaluating credibility so good job! I think your conclusion is probably right, but it would have served you to take a step further and search for whether Romney has ever commented on ICE's budget or Trump’s use of it in the past. Even if he didn’t say that exact quote, checking press releases, Senate floor statements, or interviews would help back up your conclusion with more concrete evidence. It also would have been interesting to mention why a false quote like that might go viral especially because Romney is known for publicly criticizing Trump at times in the past which might make a fake quote seem more believable to some people who dont know the whole story.

The quote attributed to Mitt Romney—"He ran through the entire annual budget of ICE in less than two months and accomplished nothing but violating our constitution and frightening the American public"—was posted on May 1, 2025, by the Bluesky user @seedanesti. However, there is no independent confirmation that Romney actually made this statement. A review of reputable sources, including official press releases, major news outlets, and Romney's verified public communications, reveals no record of him making this remark.

Given the absence of corroborating evidence, the authenticity of this quote remains unverified. It is possible that the statement is either fabricated or paraphrased without proper attribution. Therefore, without further substantiation, the truthfulness of this quote cannot be confirmed.

I agree with your response and think this claim is entirely false while being only political misinformation. The user who made this claim has made numerous posts that are negatively portraying President Trump and his actions, it is very clear that this account is attempting to sway people's opinion of the president negatively. The quote presented has no history and I cannot find a single source that even repeats it outside of the singular blue sky post.
