That’s nonsense. The only one killed on January 6 during the protest was a an unarmed female protester. Stop the lies .

This source shows that more than 1 female protester died and some others died from heart attacks. This source also proves that not only protestors died but people protecting the capitol died as well.

The post seems to have been deleted, but why not still check the claim?

It appears to be a relatively popular version of events spread by Newsmax host Greg Kelly, and was repeated by Trump on "Rob Schmidt Tonight", according to an article published by Newsmax. By the same article's own admission: "several police officers who had served at the Capitol on Jan. 6 also died in the days and weeks that followed." Presumably, the context they're leaving out there is "...from the injuries they sustained during the events at the Capitol".

This context can be found in the Capitol Police's press release:

"At approximately 9:30 p.m. this evening (January 7, 2021), United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick passed away due to injuries sustained while on duty. Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters."

This is not to mention at least two officers who died by suicide following the events of January 6, as covered by Politico. According to Acting Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee, “...they took their own lives in the aftermath of that battle.”

While I think Trump or Kelly could perhaps argue that there was only one person who died directly from physical violence on the day of January 6th (and even then, they'd be splitting hairs), they don't seem interested in making that caveat.

While it could be argued that only one person died from the January 6 protest, it is not the only fatality from the protest. The New York Times reported the following names and causes of the deaths following the protest:

  • Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer as rioters tried to breach the House chamber.
  • Kevin D. Greeson died of a heart attack, collapsing on the sidewalk west of the Capitol on Jan. 6.
  • Rosanne Boyland appeared to have been crushed in a stampede of fellow rioters as they surged against the police.
  • Benjamin Philips, the founder of a pro-Trump website called Trumparoo, died of a stroke.
  • Mr. Greeson and Mr. Philips died of natural causes, the Washington medical examiner said in April. He added that Ms. Boyland’s death was caused by an accidental overdose.
  • In the days and weeks after the riot, five police officers who had served at the Capitol on Jan. 6 died.
  • Officer Brian D. Sicknick of the Capitol Police, who was attacked by the mob, died on Jan. 7.
  • Officer Jeffrey Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department killed himself after the attack.
  • Officer Howard S. Liebengood of the Capitol Police also died by suicide four days afterward."

Based on your fact-check and long list of deaths, wouldn't this fact-check be marked as "false" rather than "exaggerated/misleading"?
