Talk of expanding women’s roles in Iran’s military is indeed gaining attention, but it remains largely a social-media trend rather than a concerted effort at reform. A recent article in Amwaj Media—a regional independent outlet—covers an online petition to reinstate women’s conscription in Iran. As Amwaj notes, “Despite the attention it has received, the campaign to universalize conscription remains an online movement with no formal backing from policymakers—at least so far.” Citing a report by Afghanistan’s nonprofit daily Haft-e Sobh, the article concludes, “The campaign calling for military service for girls is more of a protest reaction to the current military situation for men than a serious demand.”
I found no evidence that Iranian women are playing an active leadership role in operations against Israel. Coverage of the Iran–Israel conflict by outlets like Reuters makes no mention of female commanders or combatants.
Until independent confirmation emerges (official statements, on-the-record interviews with commanders, or authenticated footage), claims that Iranian women are leading attack operations should be regarded as false.
