This parallels another claim posted here suggesting Zelensky is a war criminal. As for that point, there is no open case against President Zelensky at the International Criminal Court (ICC), nor is he named in the ICC’s ongoing “Situation in Ukraine” investigation, and in fact, none of the six individuals listed are even Ukrainian.
Looking at the other points, Zelensky was indeed democratically elected in 2019 (Reuters). Although the 2024 election was postponed due to the war, Ukrainians broadly supported the decision. As The AP reports, “With almost one-fifth of Ukraine occupied by Russia and millions of citizens displaced, Ukraine’s opposition leaders backed the delay, and opinion polls suggest most Ukrainians agree.”
Regarding the Nazi accusation, Zelensky is himself Jewish, and in 2015, Ukraine’s parliament explicitly banned Nazi propaganda and symbols. While some volunteer units—such as the Azov Regiment—have displayed extremist insignia, Ukraine’s “denazification” narrative mainly has been promoted by Russia as a pretext for invasion, rather than reflecting political reality in Ukraine.
Overall, Zelensky has never been accused or charged with murder or war crimes; he was freely elected and governs a functioning (though strained, due to wartime measures) democracy; and his Jewish heritage and legal measures against extremism make the Nazi label unfounded.
