The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, had the colors of the U.S. projected onto the city hall building. That's patriotism.

This claim is false. The lights projected on São Paulo’s City Hall in mid‑July 2025 were the colors of the French flag, not the U.S. According to Revista Oeste, Sao Paulo celebrated a Fête Nationale, France's national day on July 14th. This day marks the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, 'one of the most emblematic moments of the French Revolution and a symbol of the birth of the Republic.' The article also reads, 'De acordo com a publicação, a iluminação na fachada da prefeitura é uma homenagem ao povo francês e aos "laços históricos de amizade entre nossos países'.'Além disso, a iluminação é também uma representação do Ano Cultural Brasil-França para fortalecer a relação bilateral, This translates to, "Furthermore, the illumination is also a representation of the Brazil-France Cultural Year to strengthen the bilateral relationship, which will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2025," reads another excerpt from the post."
