An article from the publication Science provides a visualization of CDC data, demonstrating decreasing reports of and, in certain cases, the effective eradication of diseases, following the licensing of vaccines. Our World in Data provides the example of the World Health Organization's global smallpox eradication program, which, from 1959 to 1980, completely eradicated smallpox from the world using vaccinations.
The World Health Organization explains that vaccine efficacy and effectiveness are based on decreased percentages of population contraction and a prediction of effectiveness, respectively. These two measures of success can be hard to quantify, especially in large populations, but the success of vaccines is clear from available data.
