Ukraine since 2014 had been trying to cancel Russian culture and history in these regions, including Crimea, regions that had been part of the USSR. Here’s the question: Do Ukrainian citizens with Russian roots who see Russia has their true fatherland have rights in Ukraine?

For the most part, everything I found relating to this seemed to validate this claim. Ukrainians are trying to "decolonize" Ukraine in retaliation for President Putin's invasion attempt of Ukraine. Because of this invasion, many Ukrainian people are trying to erase Russia and the Russian language from their culture and landscape entirely.

Even Ukrainian President Zelensky said in an interview in 2022, right before Putin invaded, "Russia itself is doing everything to ensure that de-Russification takes place on the territory of our state.”

This erasure of Russia from Ukraine is the people of Ukraine's way of fighting back, to protect their culture and way of life from unwanted enemy intrusion. This does go back to 2014, like the claim says, as there was an earlier attempt to "de-communize" the country during the pro-democracy Maidan Revolution from 2013-2014. These efforts include repudiating soviet symbols and statues, outlawing Soviet symbols, and throwing away Russian books.
