While some outlets have been reporting the claim that a large number of Ukranian mercenaries were killed in Sudan, these outlets are far from major and/or reputable. These outlets include Military Watch Magazine, an outlet that has gained scrutiny for publishing Russian propagandist views. Africanews, a somewhat reputable publication, said the claims orginated from the Sudanese Armed Forces, but noted that they "could not be independently verified." Furthermore, they noted that these claims had not been confirmed or denied by any governments involved.

Since the claims have not been independently verified, and originate from a military source, it is hard to determine their veracity. The Guardian did report more than a year ago that Ukranian Special Forces were engaged in conflict with Russian forces in Ukraine. However, it is hard to find record of Ukranian troops, military or mercenary, operating in Sudan since.

Because of the low level of trusted news coming out of Sudan, and the lack of information regarding Ukranian mercenaries in the country prior to these claims, they can be considered inconclusive. Ukraine does have a past in Sudan, but there is just not enough reliable information to consider these claims true or false.

I really enjoyed reading your answer because you can tell based on your response that you read the initial claim and thought about it carefully. I think providing the information that nothing has been confirmed and is not reputable is a very important piece of information given the claim.

It was interesting when the claims weren't independently verified, shows that people are very easily changed. Providing this information that nothing has been confirmed is a blessing it itself given the claim that is given.

I thought that your response was very interesting and well thought-out.  I thought you did a good job weighing and comparing the credibility of all of the sources as well as acknowledging the limits of verifiable information.

Excellent summary. I agree. I think it’s definitely key to note the reliability of sources and how we have yet to receive corroborated evidence from a neutral source. A large majority of news outlets such as EADaily that have published something in relation to Ukraine mercenaries being terminated in Sudan are partisan outlets and have been deemed as low credibility tied to Russian Propoganda (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/eurasia-daily-bias-and-credibility/). It’s also crucial to point out that the Middle East Monitor only cites it as a claim from one side. It is clear there is an information war, and this information is yet to be confirmed.
