According to multiple sources, this is mostly true. One of the men arrested in connection has an extensive criminal history, with numerous arrests related to theft. He also had ties to other individuals who have been connected to the case through DNA found in the truck used by the thieves. Two other members in the case were already under supervision by the police, and both resided in the same low-income neighborhoods in Paris. Because of the locations the individuals lived in, investigators don't believe them to be organized criminals. (USA Today)

According to the French police, the woman and man most recently charged are romantically linked. With the variety of low-level theft charges among the five suspects, investigators were surprised they were able to successfully carry out the robbery, which took place in just eight minutes. None of the stolen items has yet been recovered. (Time)

After doing a deep dive into this claim, I can say with confidence that this claim is true – local Paris Prosecutors have claimed that the individuals who committed the Louvre heist were petty criminals. Upon doing an initial Google search, the number of news headlines by reliable sources that are all reporting the same things is overwhelming. To begin, the first headline that comes up was one published by CNN on November 3, 2025. This article contains an interview with Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau in which he claims that none of the criminals convicted of robbing the Louvre have any association with organized crime. Rather, the squad comprised of three men and one woman all have backgrounds associated with petty theft. One of the men, a 37-year-old, has 11 previous convictions of petty theft, 10 of which are exclusively for robbery. According to CNN, another one of the suspects has 15 previous convictions, two of which were for robbery. Although this is what CNN has reported, these findings match those found in 4 other reputable international news sources. Those include Reuters, The Guardian, Yahoo! News, and BBC News. Considering we have found five separate reputable international news sources that are all reporting the same findings as claimed by Paris Prosecutors (a primary source), it is safe to say that this claim is absolutely true.
