The city lies on a key road that has been used by the Ukrainian military, Alex Croft writes. Russia is pushing its forces and is close to capturing the small city of Pokrovsk, which has been a gateway to the war’s most sought-after region. The fight within this city has been ongoing for a little more than a year, as Russia has been trying to capture the city. Around 100,000 Russian troops have been circling the city, pushing forward, which will result in the thousands of troops in Myrnohrad being trapped. “Moscow says Ukraine is at risk of running out of men and that its own slower tactics are designed to minimise casualties” (Craft).
An online map of the war in Ukraine, that showcases news of Russia’s war against Ukraine, DeepState shows Russian forces pushing into the city of Pokrovsk. The project says the situation "continues to deteriorate to the point that it may be too late to fix."
