Nancy Pelosi has announced her retirement in a video she has released. She will not be seeking reelection at the end of her term in 2027. There is no indication that ‘age’ was her motivating factor in choosing to retire. According to BBC, Nancy Pelosi, 85, had served in congress for 38 years. She was the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House from 2003 to 2023. According to a source in NBC news, her last focus was winning a yes on Proposition 50 in California, ultimately winning a yes. AP News states the decision was not entirely unexpected and left an impact amongst other politicians from the west coast to also step down for the next generation. Pelosi states, “My message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your power. We have made history. We have made progress. We have always led the way.” So while Nancy Pelosi’s decision to retire wasn’t purely influenced from age, she has confirmed that at the end of her current term, she will not be seeking re-election.
