This claim is false. According to the Selective Service System's official website (a website that is a .gov), "As of January 2016, there has been no decision to require females to register with Selective Service, or be subject to a future military draft. Selective Service continues to register only men, ages 18 through 25." While women can enlist in the military, they do not qualify to be drafted. It is also important to note that there has not been a draft in the United States since 1973 (usa.gov).

This claim has been proved false. This claim has been spreading across tiktok by a variety of users, but has been addressed by sources such as NBC and Militarytimes who maintain that there has been no ruling mandating women register for the draft. US officials further refuted this claim stating that "Defense officials confirm the armed forces have made no such recommendation to Congress or the president, which are the entities empowered to authorize a draft."

This claim is not true.

Women are now eligible to enlist in the military on their own will, this does not mean they can be drafted or that they have a selective service number. According to the Selective Service System, "As of January 2016, there has been no decision to require females to register with Selective Service, or be subject to a future military draft. Selective Service continues to register only men, ages 18 through 25."

This claim is False.
Even though women are allowed to voluntary apply to the military there are not forced to sign a contract to get drafted. According to the selective service in 2016 there is no need for females to insist to get drafted however men have to register from the ages of 18-25. This claim could have started through social media as it was a running on joke on the platform tiktok but it has been proven as of right now that women can register to be in the military willingly and voluntary.

The original claim of women now being able to be drafted is false. According to the Selective Service System, "As of January 2016, there has been no decision to require females to register with Selective Service, or be subject to a future military draft. Selective Service continues to register only men, ages 18 through 25." The credible, government website goes on to say that, "While women officers and enlisted personnel serve with distinction in the U.S. Armed Forces, women have never been subject to Selective Service registration or a military draft in America." This supports the idea that the clam of women now able to be drafted into the military, is an example of misinformation.

This claim is false. There was a point in 2016 where the Selective Service System decided to review the idea of lifting the gender restriction on the draft: “Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced on December 3, 2015, the Department of Defense will lift all gender-based restrictions on military service starting January 2016”(Selective Service System). Congress then went through a 30 day period where they evaluated the implications of this change and ultimately decided to not change anything. “As of January 2016, there has been no decision to require females to register with Selective Service, or be subject to a future military draft. Selective Service continues to register only men, ages 18 through 25” (Selective Service System). No other notable or reliable sources have confirmed that women will be drafted in the military. There have only been opinion articles on the matter and no further discussion of it since 2016.

After researching the claim "Women can now be drafted", I have found it to be false. While there has been pushes in the past to try and change it, it has failed so far. according to 19th News "As the law currently stands, every “male citizen” and immigrant — regardless of legal status — between the ages of 18 and 26 must register..." But in 2022 "Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, a Democrat and former U.S. Air Force officer, wants to strike the word “male” from the bill and expand the registration to all Americans, regardless of race, color, sex or gender." (19th News). After reading about this, it's clear that change has been proposed, but as of now it has been rejected and women are not draft eligible.
