Kansas City Chiefs say they won't be re-signing Travis Kelce's contract.
by Newbie (370 points)
This claim is not true and satirical. This website has right leaning affiliations and they seem to be targeting Kelce and even Taylor Swift as they are both democrat voters.

The claim that the Kansas City Chiefs won’t be re-signing Travis Kelce's contract is false. The source of this claim is The Dunning-Kruger Times, a satirical news site. On the “About Us” page on its official website, the company refers to itself as a “network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery,” and calls its content “junk news.” This showcases that The Dunning-Kruger Times is not known for its credibility and truthfulness since its main focus is to create satirical content for the public. Additionally, when using Google to search “KC Chiefs not re-signing Travis Kelce,” no articles have headlines or information that supports this claim. There have also been no official statements on this claim made by the NFL, or the Kansas City Chiefs themselves. When plugging in this claim to perplexity.ai, a fact-check conducted by Kaiyah Clarke for the site, “Lead Stories' ', is linked, debunking the claim that the KC Chiefs will not renew Kelce's contract. Both Fox Sports, StyleCaster, and Spotrac, Kelce is currently in a four-year contract with the KC Chiefs.

This claim is made from a website called Dunning Kruger Times, a website that self claims as a "subsidiary of the 'America's Last Line of Defense' network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery..." This already makes the claim lack proper credibility. Upon further research, the position they cite, the Vice President of Football Operations, is not held by Joe Barron but rather Troy Vincent. It seems as though this post was made as clickbait for people that are upset over the coverage about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's relationship.

This is the first fact check I've seen that goes into a different angle looking at why this is a false claim other than it just being from a satire site. Great job looking finding that Troy Vincent is the actual VP of Football Ops.

This claim is false. This originated from an article published by The Dunning-Kruger Times (a website known for creating fictional content) in February of 2024. On their "About Us" page, they said, "Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined." They then go on to say, "All images should be considered altered and satirical."

Additionally, in 2020, Kelce signed a four-year contract extension for $57.25 million that began in 2021. He will not be a free agent and the Chiefs have not spoken on not resigning Kelce.

This claim - along with the site in which the headline comes from - is satire. They write about claims and statements that are "said" by the Coach or President of the team to which are entirely negative and would have resulted in some hate from the media or audiences if it were truly indicated. Furthermore, there is no confirmation that Kelce will be leaving the team from any reliable sources when searching his name with the future of the team after the Superbowl. They inserted particular names - like Taylor Swift - in their claims and how negative her relationship with the line-backer had been effecting the team and ruining football; when statistically, she has been producing more diverse viewers and commission of gear for the team then at any other time of their career; sourced from Sport's Illustrated

Furthermore, the site Lead Stories indicated how this site is entirely false and created content that was targeted to one sort of audience and how their claims don't align with any of the ideas surrounding the results of the Super Bowl and the career of both the player and the national league team. They found how the "About Us" on the website indicates that they produce content that is purely "parody, satire, and tomfoolery." Indicating how this claim is also satire.

This is false information as well as it clearly being satirical. Kelce is under contract until 2026 so he couldn't even be "resigned," or not resigned. This article comes from DunningKrugerTimes.com. On their website, they explain that "everything on this website is fiction." This is listed here: https://dunning-kruger-times.com/about-us/

The information is false and satirical.

The website https://dunning-kruger-times.com is clearly false and misleading in which they say" The relationship is ruining the experience for the fans, and they're blaming us". There have been no other sources found that have confirmed this claim is true. The website is full of other misinformation as well and it's there to mislead people and trick them into thinking that Kelce is leaving. Travis Kelce who just helped propel the Chiefs to yet another Super Bowl, isn't going anywhere. Is.com mentions that in 2022 Travis Kelce had adjusted his contract with the Chiefs to help the team with salary cap issues and sign more players. He shows his loyalty to the Chiefs and the Chiefs prioritize him as a top player on their team.

This website is satirical. Not only are the popups comical in nature, but the quotes included are from someone who doesn't exist. Namely Patrick Mahomes spiritual advisor Chuck. This person does not exist especially because he is never mentioned with a last name. Also I could not find a single article mentioning him. Thus almost all of the claims in the article are falsified. Travis Kelce has as well confirmed his intentions to stay in Kansas City for the rest of his career.

The above claim from this website is not true and is instead satire. This website is known to be a satirical website and when you look at the about us page on their site, to states that the website is about parody and satire. Although this claim is not true, it doesn't have any intent to harm and it is really just about making a joke in light of the recent events of the Super Bowl and the relationship of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelece. Upon further research into Kelece's contract, I found that he got an extension to his contract in 2021 for 4 more years for $57 million. This comes from Boardroom, a website with lots of information about sports deals. There are many more sources discussing Kelece's contract as well further proving that the above claim in not true.

This is a satire article and source. It is not a reliable source for finding out if Kansas City will resign the TE Travis Kelce. Kelce is headed into his last season on his current contract and recently has expressed no interest playing anywhere else. Kelce is currently on a 57 million contract that is going to take him to the end of the 2025 season. With the team success this past season winning the Super Bowl. His face becoming the talk of NFL season with him and singer Taylor Swift it is hard to see Kansas City wanting to part ways with the star. Travis on his Podcast with his brother talked about how he does not want to play anywhere else besides Kansas City and their head coach Andy Reid. This original post comes from a satire site that is known for pushing out satire articles. When I looked on my own I did not see any information about this being close to true. I would expect near the end of the 2025 season that Kelce will be back in Kansas City.

This website's assertion above is parody rather than fact. This website is well-known for being sarcastic, and the about us page makes clear that parody and satire are key components of the website. Despite the fact that this allegation is untrue, it is made only as a jest in light of the current Super Bowl events and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's connection. There is no malicious intent behind it. After looking into Kelece's deal more, I discovered that he received a $57 million, four-year contract extension in 2021. This information is taken from Boardroom, a website that offers a wealth of sports deal information.

The website that posted this article is a site that is dedicated to posting satire articles and headlines. In the about us page the website claims to be a ," network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery." It seems that there are no other reports claiming that this is true but the website, Lead Stories, wrote an article on how fake this is. Kelce also is under contract for the chiefs for another year before Kansas City could even think about not resigning him. The Chiefs will actually be paying him $12 million guaranteed next year. Based on this website being satire I am going to have to say that the claim of the Chiefs nit resigning Kelce is false.
