This claim is inaccurate and is spreading misinformation. The Instagram reel states that Disney is adding urinals to the women's restroom. This claim is false and Disney is not adding urinals. The content creator of this post frequently creates satirical posts. However, the content does seem to take an official approach but it is false and meant to be funny. According to USA Today, a Disney spokesperson spoke out about the claim being false.

Your fact-check is concise, yet thorough. Nice job.

This is a good fact check, but it would be more concise if you found more sources to back up your statement. For example, you could put in the quote from the Disney spokesperson in your fact check. I do like how you did more research on the content creator's past post. Maybe you can give more examples of what the other posts the content creator posts to give the audience more context.

Great fact check. The provided source was very useful to check the claim. Your explanation was also very useful and gave a lot of information in a short amount of time. Good work!

This fact check is really good. I wish you had found one more source to back up your answer, however I found it useful that you further looked at the content creators posts, and ultimately deducted that they are mostly satirical. Additionally, the source you provided is legitimate, and helps prove that the claim made was false.

This claim is false. The original claim came from a satire site called Mouse Trap News, which looks to be a disney adult joke platform. They had created a TikTok video with this claim that went viral. People were mainly upset at this claim, not understanding that the creator of the content claims to post content that is "assured that anything you read is not true, real, or accurate, but is fun." This obviously confuses almost everyone that sees their content, especially when a video goes viral and people outside their fanbase see their "fake" content. Again, this is false and is from a satire site. Sources below take you to where the site is debunked. Disney's official site with information on their restrooms (that say nothing about urinals in women's restrooms) is also provided.

Great fact check, i think it’d be helpful to add the link to the Mouse Trap News page to give people more of an ideas of what that website does.

You did a great job of commenting on this claim and going straight to the source. Adding background context to help make your fact checking strong is great especially because you looked at the Disney website on restrooms. Another thing that you added to this fact check which helped is that not everyone who saw this post understands that it came from a satirical source.
by Apprentice (1.7k points)
This fact check is well done. Following the claim to its source and including Disney's information about restrooms is effective. The additional source from Snopes makes this fact check strong.

This claim is false. Originated from Mouse Trap News, a website that describes themselves as "the world's best satire and parody site" said an "official" spokesperson informed them that "Adding urinals to the women's restroom provides a safer and more inclusive atmosphere for everyone." However, there is no spokesperson and this story is made up. Each story on the website ends with a text that verifies the falsehood of this story, saying "To stay up to date on more very real Disney news like this totally made-up story, be sure to follow Mouse Trap News on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter." The video posted on their TikTok account received more than 58,000 views with commenters believing the information they were given. A Walt Disney Co. spokesperson Melissa Britt told PolitiFact that the claim is "not accurate."

This is a great fact check. I like that you found the intention of the original source and were able to show that this was intended as a parody. Finding the intent of the source is important.

I  appreciate your thorough yet rigorous fact-check. You've provided credible sources, along with describing how that satirical site operates in generating its media content.

This claim is false and misleading. The claim was originally posted in a video on TikTok by Mouse Trap News. It is satirical. Moreover, a quick Google search shows no reports on it by popular and reputable publications. Something this controversial would have some buzz somewhere if there was any truth in it.

Well done! However, i think adding more sources could be helpful, like a link to the actual article and website, as well as more description towards the end.

This claim is false. The claim initially was reported on Mouse Trap News, a satirical site dedicated to posting satire information regarding Disney parks. The claim in the article said, “Disney World is adding urinals to all women’s restrooms. This is an effort by Disney to be more inclusive.”

The claim then made its way to TikTok, where according to Snopes, the claim faced a lot of backlash where users commented against the idea and others knowing about the satire claim.

Mouse Trap News provides an about page explaining their site, saying, “Mouse Trap News is the world’s best satire and parody site. We write fake stories about Disney Parks stuff. From Disney Park announcements to Disney Hotel and resort news to made-up Disney partnerships, you can be assured that anything you read here is not true, real, or accurate, but it is fun. So technically our slogan The Moused Trusted Name in Disney News isn’t true, but we thought it was creative and funny, so we are running with it.”

This post itself is false, deriving from a satire site called mouse trap news. The original video was posted on TikTok from the official mouse trap news account. When you visit the about me page of mousetrapnews.com, it states,” Mouse Trap News is the world’s best satire and parody site. We write fake stories about Disney Parks stuff. From Disney Park announcements to Disney Hotel and resort news to made-up Disney partnerships, you can be assured that anything you read here is not true, real, or accurate, but it is fun. Thank you for your fact-check. After reading, because there are no links attached, I had to check for the quote myself. It is true that mouse trap news is a satirical site, but I would have liked to see the original TikTok post that you mentioned. I think it's important to link to the sources you reference.

This claim is false. The other replies here have all tracked down and shown the source of the claim as Mouse Trap News, which says in its about page that it is satire and intentionally untrue information about Disney. Thanks to everyone for tracking this down before me, it saved me having to rewatch the Instagram video another time to catch the name of the website. So, its untrue, and the original author says it outright, but I think there is room for more analysis.

Mouse Trap News seems to be a little bit more than a satire blog. For one thing, there is no contact information, author credit, affiliation listing, anything. I think this is a bot, but honestly that’s built on an assumption. When you read a few of these stories back-to-back, which I chose to but would recommend against, they start to follow a recognizable pattern:

First, Mouse Trap asserts that Disney, or some relevant entity, is doing X thing to appear more progressive/accessible/inclusive (“Disneyland Now Allowing Homeless People in Their Park”, “Disney World Will Not Celebrate Christmas in 2024”, “Disney Adding Pronouns and More Inclusivity to Nametags”, and so on). Mouse trap then delivers a boilerplate, often inadequate or exaggerated, reason as to why X thing may need to be done. The story finally ends with a few paragraphs starting with “however”, or some equivalent, and Mouse Trap explains why X thing is a silly thing to do according to “most people”.

The satire on Mouse Trap News is political in nature. The about page I think deflects from this a little bit by saying the website is fake and a joke. Most of the satire is written with warped versions of views often held by people on the progressive side of politics, and often the jokes are made at the expense of queer people, disabled people, and marginalized groups in general. Whether or not the content itself is made by a bot, I can’t be certain, but it is clear to me that whoever manages Mouse Trap News has a bias against progressive views on social justice issues. The story we are discussing is transphobic, ending with an alleged comment from “a man” who says, “Now I can finally use the women’s restroom without worrying about being arrested,” Which echoes the incorrect belief that allowing trans people to use whatever bathroom they need will somehow lead to an increase in sexual violence.

Ultimately, despite claiming to just be satire, Mouse Trap News does real harm. Yes, it is spreading false information about Disney and its parks, but in doing so it hides more sinister misinformation which serves to justify bigoted political views. This website is essentially curated misinformation for someone’s right wing aunt to post to her Facebook wall. This leads me to my last point: we are talking about the original claim, but the link given is to an Instagram account which is not Mouse Trap News. The account which made the post is connected to a Derrick Gates, who ran for California’s 36th congressional district seat in 2022 and is currently running for the Republican County Central Committee for Los Angeles County. I’m not sure you could say Derrick Gates has a successful political career, but it is the case that politics, especially local politics, is threatened by this sort of content. Mouse Trap News claims it is satire, but its content legitimizes dangerous and inaccurate beliefs and is not clearly marked as satire (also, it’s just not very good satire). People like Derrick Gates then repost this kind of content without disclosing it is intended to be satire, because the message isn’t about the satire, it’s about confirming Gate’s already held belief and hopefully reaching a large enough audience with similar sensibilities to get out the vote.

Apologies this one ran a little long, but I had a good time doing it and hope my response was helpful for someone!

The claim that Disney World is adding urinals to the women's bathrooms is false. According to the article, an organization called, Mouse Trap News, originated the false claim in a satirical sense. There were also fake quotes given about the bathroom adding urinals. Although it was meant as satire, many people took the claim seriously. USA Today, a reputable source, also has an article stating that the claim is false.
