An official statement from Subway announced a $6 foot long because of inflation. According to Forbes, "cumulative inflation rose about 14.3 percent between 2007 and 2015. That said, what cost $5 in 2007 was worth $5.72 eight years later. As a result, Subway began advertising $6 footlong sandwiches in early 2016." Subway also faced controversy and was taken to court over the size of their sandwiches which were not actually found to be 12 inches as advertised. Rising inflation and controversy surrounding the company caused the company to lose sales and ultimately get rid of the $5 foot long.

The article is written by the Babylon Bee, which the company describes itself as, “the worlds best satire sight.” Furthermore, in the bio of the Babylon Bee’s twitter page, it states, “fake news you can trust.” Already the article is revealed written as fake news. Furthermore, the article mentions a person named Irv Dent who is supposedly a Subway spokesperson. While researching, no sites mentioned Dent, and the quote by him used in the article doesn’t cite a particular source. There is also zero evidence inside the article backing up the facts, and no releases by Subway mentioning this particular idem will be added to the menu. While this 5-inch for $5 Subway deal is entirely satire, Subway did announce a new “$6.99 foot long deal.” “It’s not $5,” CNN writes, “but Subway is bringing back cheap footlongs and joining the fast-food values menu wars.” While Subway did publicly announce they will be adding a new discount code for their footlongs, this entire Babylon Bee article is satire, therefore the claim is false.
