While reading an article about George Santos it mentioned other congresspersons and their efforts of trying to relate to Gen Z, but while describing this it mentioned a claim that certainly made my eyebrow raise. Here is the direct quote: "Ross gifted the Republican a Rolex watch and a Tesla Cybertruck — a likely violation of U.S. campaign finance regulations, as some critics pointed out." Is this true? If so what finance regulation was broken?

Adin Ross did gift Donald Trump a Rolex and a Tesla Cybertruck. Trump's campaign has said that it "will seek guidance from the Federal Election Commission on how to handle the gifts" (The Guardian). This gift violates the limits imposed by FECA, which state that an individual's campaign can only receive up to $3,300 per election (FEC).
