In the Ohio State vs. Oregon game, the stadium reached up to 127 decibels, one of the top five highest recorded volumes in college football. The stadium is designed with a convex shape, so the crowd's cheers bounce right back down to the field. College football show host and avid Penn State fan Josh Pate said that it’s the loudest stadium within the Big Ten. He has been on the field at stadiums to experience it firsthand, and it’s incomparable.

This is super interesting! I liked how you included that the stadium is shaped to maximize the sound, which is a main reason as to why it got so loud. Go Ducks!

Your understanding of the architectural design of the stadium really boosts the credibility of your fact checking. It really puts it into perspective how the audience can perceive the volume to be the loudest in the nation, when really our stadium is just designed to enhance the experience.

I love how you added not only a credible link, but your own understanding as to why that evidence makes sense!

I thought you did a great job on this fact check. You added some very insightful information and then added data to back the claim. I also thought it was really interesting to hear that another teams fan Josh Pate agreed and said that when he was at Autzen stadium was the loudest in the big ten. I also thought it was great you added some information on the architecture of the stadium. Great job on this, and Go Ducks!

In the Ohio State vs. Oregon game, the stadium reached up to 127 decibels, one of the top five highest recorded volumes in college football. College football analyst Josh Pate has recently emphasized the exceptional noise levels at Oregon's Autzen Stadium, asserting that it stands as the loudest venue in the Big Ten Conference. Drawing from his extensive experience attending games nationwide, Pate remarked, "Autzen is the loudest stadium in the Big Ten." So I would say that Auzten stadium is the loudest stadium in the big 10.

My instinct is to trust the reporting that Sports Illustrated does on sports, but the article written there left me with a few questions. What makes me skeptical about this statement is that this SI article and every other article I found stating the same decibel level is that no one claims where they got this information from, when it was recorded, and what the method of decibel recording was done to obtain this information. I do not know if this information is true; it's not necessarily something important to lie about, but the lack of evidence makes me question if it is possibly exaggerated or not.

This in fact is a true statement, Auzten stadium when it had the highest attendance game went on to be the most record-breaking in Auzten stadium history reaching 127 decibels. Even though it doesn’t hold the most people, because of the way the stadium was built it keeps noise trapped inside of the stadium therefore making it louder. Also according to Sport illustrated that the shape makes it like a double-sided Ampitheater, and the being close together creates more room for people to be loud.

I can stand by this fact of Autzen being the loudest Big 10 Stadium. According to Sports Illustrated Autzen Stadium had 60,129 in attendance the most its ever gotten. Most of the top Big 10 schools hold about 100,000 fans. The difference from Autzen and those other stadiums is the size. Autzen is built much smaller and compacted than other stadiums so when it gets loud you can hear all the noise. Josh Pate said "Ohio state vs Oregon in Autzen was the loudest game I experienced this season".

This claim is true! Not only is Autzen the loudest stadium in the BIG10, it is the second-loudest stadium in all conferences. Due to its convex shape, small capacity, and the proximity of the fans to the field, Autzen gets real loud.

Despite Michigan being the biggest stadium in the Big Ten, holding a little over 100,000 fans, Autzen Stadium, being one of the smallest stadiums (holds about 60,000) in the Big Ten, is in fact, the loudest stadium in the Big Ten. This was discovered when the Ducks played the Buckeyes at home in 2024. After the Ducks won 32-31 over the Buckeyes, quarterback Will Howard said, “I’m not going to lie, they brought it. For me, I thought it was a smaller stadium, but it got loud. I don’t know what it was about the shape of the stadium, but it got very loud on the field, especially down there at the end.” Although Autzen is small, it’s shaped like an amphitheater, so the sounds are more contained and make it louder. And because of this, at the Ducks-Buckeyes game, it reached one of the top five highest levels of decibel in college football which was 127, just behind Michigan. So, despite the small capacity, the shape, fan atmosphere, and school spirit, helped Autzen be the loudest stadium in the Big Ten.

After doing some research, I found that the claim that Autzen Stadium is the loudest stadium seems to be untrue. After looking at an article by Sports Illustrated where they wrote about the loudest college stadiums. With the source written in 2023, it's still quite relevant to the current discussion of college football stadiums loudness. In Sports Illustrated's rankings, the Oregon Ducks placed second on the list; however, the list doesn't seem to be dependent on the decibels of the stadiums. With the highest decibel reading, we have the Washington Huskies at a remarkable 133.6, which is a small bit higher than Oregon's record, which stands at 127. When looking at purely sound, Washington holds the loudest stadium in the Big 10.

The claim is that Auzten Stadium is the loudest in the Big10 Conference. The linked article from Sports Illustrated states that Auzten Stadium had a top 5 highest recorded decibel in college football of 127 decibels. However it does not state the source of this data and mentions quotes from an Oregon player and their head coach, which are obviously biased sources. The claim also mentions analyst Josh Pate stating that Autzen stadium is the loudest venue in the Big10, which I fact checked to be true by looking at another source. Also he did say this, it does not have any proven data and is an opinion. Looking at other sources, it is hard to find a proven claim that provides the source for the 127 decibels. As the claim is lacking credible sources and officially proven data, I would say that there is not enough information to prove this to be correct.

The article provided by the claim, Oregon Ducks Beat Ohio State: Deafening Autzen Stadium Breaks Attendance Record, doesn't provide a lot of proof that tells us that Autzen Stadium is the loudest stadium in the Big Ten Conference. However, one piece of information that helped the claim was that during the Ohio State and Oregon games, Autzen had “a top-five highest-ever recorded level of 127 decibels in college football.” Yet, that data alone does not validate that Autzen is the loudest stadium in the Big Ten conference so after some research and looking at other articles for the loudest college stadiums, including Autzen, I have found that Autzen is indeed the loudest stadium in the Big Ten and maybe even in college football.

To start, the design of the bowl-shaped stadium was intentional to make the stadium louder. In an article with Si.com, Christopher Mitchell, an architect for the Autzen Stadium,  explained to them how “the seats and noise created from the wild Ducks fans don’t get broken up by structure and rings of glassed-in luxury seating. Add in a suite building on the north side with a flat, solid surface and a roof on the south side both bouncing sound back toward the field, and ‘all those things help concentrate sound back in toward the bowl.” This adds validity that Autzen was created to be one of the loudest stadiums in college football, especially in the Big Ten.

In another article by The Register-Guard, they pulled out a quote from the star Ohio State Quarterback, Will Howard, who said, “It was a tough place to play," and “For me, I thought it was a smaller stadium, but it got loud. I don’t know what it was about the shape of the stadium, but it got very loud on the field, especially down there at the end. I think the fact that it was a really good game the whole time, kind of kept them in it and credit to them, man, they had a good atmosphere." Additionally, in the same article, Josh Pate, a national college football analyst for the 247Sports and CBS Sports HQ came out and said that “The Big Ten’s loudest stadium is in Eugene, Oregon," and "This place is louder than any other venue in the Big Ten, including places with 30,000 or 40,000 more seats capacity than Autzen Stadium has…” To conclude, although there’s no chart or data compiled of every Big Ten school’s noise level, we do know for a fact through people like Will Howard and Josh Pate, who are credible sources that Autzen is one of the loudest stadiums in college football and the loudest in the Big Ten conference.

As of the 2024 BIG 10 American football conference ending, despite Autzen being one of the smaller stadiums in the conference it’s attendance record was broken by deafening crowds during the Oregon vs Ohio State game. The noise reportedly reached 127 decibels, with many photos being shared across social media platforms of Buckeye’s fans complaining about the noise. The volume of fans in the stadium is credited towards both devoted fans and the unique shape and size of the stadium. With a smaller capacity of 59,000 people, the curvature of the stadium bowl comparable to a “double-sided amphitheater” concentrates all the noise down from the crowd into the field.

This statement seems to be true, as the information is generally true and founded by UO's own website, while it is true that the stadium did get up to 127 decibels, it is the loudest stadium in the Big 10 due to its condensed size, seating, and location of the stadium. However, the distinction is clear that this is the loudest in the Big 10, the actual loudest is LSU's stadium which constantly hits around 130 decibels based on other links provided. This notion is deemed to be shared around all of college football, but only because of interviews with players over the years exclaiming that Autzen is loud and chaotic.

This claim is true. At the Ohio State v. Oregon game the decibel level recorded reached 127 and in the article says that this game put Autzen stadium in the top-five highest decibel level in college football. This is backed by the Sports Illustrated article that ranks the loudest college football games and Autzen comes in second place behind Tiger Stadium (LSU) which had a game with a decibel level of 130. With LSU being in the SEC this makes Autzen the loudest stadium in the Big 10. Another Sports Illustrated article talks about what makes Autzen so loud and says that Autzens "pringle" shaped design that bounces the sound all over the stadium making it the loudest.

As someone who goes to Oregon I can attest to how loud the stadium is. I went to almost every home game and it was always loud. Especially the Ohio State game, which came down to the last second. In the game it was the loudest in Oregons history. I do believe it is the most loud in the Big Ten due to the fact that it is shaped to keep the sound in the stadium.
