Watching this game and then seeing the claim that game 5 was rigged had me very intrigued. While the officials' involvement in the final minutes of the game was questionable to say the least, there is no real way of knowing if the game was rigged.

After researching this topic, all there is to see about this claim is people stating their opinions and nothing more. There are countless publishings online of people saying that it was rigged and why they think that. However, nobody will ever know if this claim is true or false. If there was any legitimate possibility that this game was rigged, the Minnesota Lynx would file an appeal to the league, and argue their position in hopes to get the situation investigated, and they have not yet done that.

I think it’s good that you’re trying to look into the stats for the officiating, but it’s very important to distinguish poor officiating and the claim of rigging. We know that the referees made some bad calls. Bad calls don’t equal the intent to rig. Taking the official game reports into account would help your argument.

You made a good point regarding the absence of an official appeal. Despite this, I would recommend that you explore fan feelings and the media narratives that accompany them. Many fans are outraged and express it without any real evidence, and this can skew perceptions. You could also highlight how fan sentiments might make discussions around 'rigging' more palatable. Just a suggestion.

I believe there is some credence to the lack of an appeal. However, claims of rigging games follow every championship in a major league. It usually boils down to disappointed fans of the losing team looking for something to cling to after  loss
