Body weight vs traditional weight lifting exercises such as deadlifts, barbell bench press, and squats under a bar have been considered necessary for anyone serious about improving strength and fitness, but is this necessarily true? Body weight training could be better in some particular aspects such as increasing flexibility and increasing strength in those more stretched positions.

This statement is neither true nor false, but instead it comes down to the personal goals of whoever is performing the lifting. Someone who works out using strictly body weight training consistently may appear bigger or more muscular than someone who works out using weight training consistently. It ultimately comes down to the person. However, in terms of weight training, there are some major advantages. Weight training provides the ability to train using progressive overload. Progressive overload refers to slowly adding more weight over time which is optimal for building muscle mass. This is something you cannot exactly do by strictly using bodyweight.
