A lab conducted a study that found high levels of a carcinogen benzene in acne products containing benzoyl peroxide. Other studies have some similar findings, but I am always skeptical about "new skincare product causes cancer" articles. Are there other studies that disprove this or show that the articles are exaggerating their claims?

As the article mentioned, some acne products with benzoyl peroxide have high benzene levels, a chemical linked to cancer. I found some recent studies.

However, some dermatologists warn that this doesn't directly endanger users' health. Benzene is mostly a worry when used for a long time and not properly. Also, systemic absorption of benzene through the skin is generally low.  It usually doesn't happen with skincare products if they're kept correctly. They recommend storing these products at room temperature and avoiding high heat. They also suggest avoiding expired products. These can reduce the chances of benzene forming so that you can use it safely.

In summary, the article suggests you be careful with products, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use these products right away. Also, it can't be said that these products would fully cause cancer.
