In 1970, Willis Reed achieved a historic milestone by claiming every significant NBA award he was eligible for, underscoring his dominance that season. He was named the regular season MVP, the NBA Finals MVP, and the All-Star Game MVP then becoming the first player in league history to secure all three awards in a single season. His leadership on the court was a driving reason in guiding the New York Knicks to their first NBA Championship, with his legendary return in Game 7 of the Finals despite an injury further cementing his status as a Knicks icon and an NBA legend.

The claim that Reed won every award he was eligible for in the 1969-1970 season is accurate. Reed won the MVP average of 21.7 points and 13.9 rebounds per game while leading the Knicks to a 60-22 record, the best in the NBA that season. Reed also won the All-Star Game MVP after guiding the Eastern Conference to a 142-135 victory. Reed was also selected to the All-NBA first team and All-Defensive first team, but since there was no Defensive Player of the Year award until the 1982-1983 season, he could not win it. In the finals, Reed tore a muscle in his right thigh in game five and sat out game six before returning in game 7 to win Finals MVP and give the Knicks their first NBA Finals Championship.
