Almost a sixth of the Salvadoran population cannot afford to buy meat, eggs, or dairy products. For the country’s poorest families, even rice is not an option. Corn and beans are the daily fare for those who can grow them. In the past three years, 210,456 people have fallen into extreme poverty, meaning they do not make enough to cover the costs of basic staples, and rarely, if ever, eat three meals a day. Some 907,000 Salvadorans suffer severe food insecurity, struggling to survive on the brink of starvation.

this is true as about 907,000 of them are facing starvation as inflation and the climate has really driven these people into poverty. If you want more news this is the site

Were there any other platforms that were reporting on this claim? The link that was provided only goes to the website, not an actual article reporting on this. It makes it hard to find additional information and know the info you have been given is true. This seems like something that should be talked about more so I hope that other platforms have taken notice and are saying something.

I was able to verify the information that the El Salvadorian people are food insecure. I found a source, the Inter-Relgious Task Force of Central America, that had a ".org" domain handle. This source said that the climate crisis and government issues in El Salvador have been contributing to the food insecurity issues in the area. Additionally, the New Humanitarian, a news that reports on historically over-looked areas, reported that gang issues in El Salvador have stalled food insecurity solutions to be produced. With all of this being said, I was not able to find another source that verified the exact number of people in El Salvador (1 million) who are "on the verge of salvation," as this claim states. I am not trying to invalidate the fact that people in El Salvador ARE food insecure, however, I am still struggling to find another source that can verify this number. Additionally, the original source did not state where they got this number from, making their claim a little harder to trust.

Hi, I liked how you added more background information on this claim and even though there were some unreliable parts of this article, you didn't discredit it completely

I was unable to verify this claim, there has been one posting online about this situation from a source that I cannot be sure is truthful. No other news outlets have been covering this story, and with a number that large I feel that some media outlet should have covered it. Therefore I don't  believe there is enough information to substantiate the claim.

The claim that nearly one million Salvadorans on the verge of starvation is true. The article linked goes into detail and how and why a large part of the Salvadoran population is experiencing food insecurity. They use facts and data to back up their information and use links to research sources for the data cited.
