The article "The HOAX of Climate Change" calls it a political scam. Some scientists avoided the data and tried to shut down opposing views, referencing the 2009 "Climategate" controversy. It also said any warming we're seeing is just part of natural solar cycles and not because of human actions. Those claims are false because several investigations have exonerated the scientists behind those accusations, and temperature records from NASA and NOAA plainly show that the planet has been steadily warming, due mostly to human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, not solar activity.

The scientific data of changes in our oceans brought on by rising greenhouse gasses contradicts the claim that "climate change is a hoax." According to a NASA study, the ocean absorbs around 90% of the excess heat from global warming, which has caused sea levels to rise by more than 4 inches since 1992 and marine heat waves to become more intense. Two effects of the warmer water are ocean acidification, which damages marine ecosystems, and bigger hurricanes. Also, the thinning of sea ice brought on by rising air and ocean temperatures speeds up warming even further by reducing the amount of sunlight reflected back into space. These measured changes in ocean conditions prove the reality of climate change and its ongoing effects on our world.

I liked that you found a study from a credible source. The source you listed was able to give good visual examples of how climate change is affecting the world as a whole.

Hello! You did a great job thoroughly disproving this claim with clarity and credibility. While you explained how climate change works very well, I would add that the ongoing debate of climate change has severe social implications as well. Not only is it furthering the political polarization of parties, but it’s discrediting and ignoring the work of scientists and shifting the cultural view of science drastically in some areas.

The article provided is making false statements throughout their statement. "Climate Change is a hoax" is a baseless and inadequate claim regarding that topic. Great article provided by you and good job proving your point.

agree that this is a weak argument on such an important issue, as it completely ignores the scientific evidence supporting climate change. As of your part in analyzing this article, I think you did it effectively, demonstrating the flaws in its argument. You did a great job presenting credible information to counter these claims and prove your point!

This is a very well-written answer. I like that you provided various examples of how climate change is directly impacting the world and what that has looked like over time. You also used a very credible source, NASA themselves. I do think you could have possibly touched a little bit more on the political scam viewpoint and how that is also affecting our world today. For example, how politics is swaying people to not believe in climate change, which is only upholding barriers towards our efforts to mitigate its effects.

I like how you backed up your claim on climate change with legitimate sources and evidence. It's hard to argue with scientific date. I think you could've used more examples and research to strenghten your claim however.

I'm glad that you were able to proof that climate change is a real issue that we need to start taking action on, while also Showing how ridiculous the claim of "Climate change is a hoax" can be!

Hello, I thought you did a great job discrediting this claim and baking up your own claim and ideas with real credible information from trusted sources.

I think you did a great job in proving the original claim made of "Climate change is a hoax" to be false. In your fact check you made your own claim about how climate change is a real world issue, and backed it up with credible scientific sources. Your answer was well written and you actually explained the statistics you provided, rather than just copy and pasting them as is. Using NASA as a source was a great way to back up your claim, considering the topic was related to the environment and world around us. I think one way you could strengthen your claim is to include more research/findings about the political viewpoints of climate change, and how they play a role in how people view the topic.

This article claims to be an opinion piece on Climate Change. While being an opinion piece the article spreads misinformation regarding Climate Change. It based its claims on conspiracy theories or theories that don't provide relevant or credible information.

I completely agree. The claims made throughout this article hold no weight and there are no facts provided to back up these claims. Like the mention of conspiracy theories also, perfect way to describe the claim.

I agree, this article is somewhat unethical spreading information that is extremely false, and should not be mistaken for a legitimate news article. The author provides zero factual evidence to back up any of their claims, and could easily be debated with facts. For example, the NASA article linked below cites scientific data, images, timelines, and graphs to back up the MANY ways climate change can be proven and the drastic ways in which it is affecting and will affect us.

I agree, the author does not present himself as an authority on the subject nor does he provide any credible evidence that can be found anywhere else. Reversely the claim can easily be debunked by reading articles on climate change from any reputable scientific outlet, such as NASA or the EPA.

"The HOAX of climate change," gives a one-sided view that dismisses climate change as a political invention rather than a scientifically validated phenomenon. The article doesn't have citations, relies on outdated information, and presents opinions without supporting evidence from reputable scientific bodies. In order to make the article more reliable, it should've used research from credible sources, such as peer-reviewed journals or authoritative bodies like NASA or NOAA. The article is almost completely opinion based despite covering a topic that should be backed up by scientific evidence.

This article actually claims to be an opinion piece on Climate Change. The article spreads misinformation regarding Climate Change by saying things like, "These emails document their 'unethical attempts to suppress contrary opinions and publications from climate skeptics.'" without providing a sources. It has based its claims on conspiracy theories or theories that don't provide relevant or credible information

You did a great job noticing the lack of credible sources in the article! I agree that spreading misinformation on climate change without evidence is super problematic, and your analysis of how the piece relies on conspiracy theories really drives that point home.

This is a letter to the editor and an opinion piece. Nonetheless, it is false because the author denies all scientific knowledge that supports the theory of climate change (which has been emerging for the last several decades) and does not provide an opinion on the matter, but simply disregards the facts and don't back up their own. They attribute everything to natural cycles of warming and cooling caused by the sun. While it is true there are natural cycles of warming and these cycles do affect atmospheric temperature, it is not the only thing that can affect heating and cooling of the Earth---here the author is creating a false dichotomy.

Hi, I believe you did an excellent job of pointing out that the article created a false dichotomy. I agree that spreading false information about climate change despite the lack of proof is quite problematic, and your examination of the article's reliance on conspiracy theories makes that point very clear. I liked how you addressed the false claims and I believe your point can be stronger if you linked a source!

You did an excellent job pointing out the absence of credible sources in that article! I completely agree spreading misinformation on climate change without solid evidence is highly concerning, and your breakdown of how the piece leans on conspiracy theories really highlights the issue.

This is false, multiple investigations into the 2009 "Climategate" controversy found no evidence of scientific misconduct or data manipulation. An independent review by Sir Muir Russell and the UK’s House of Commons Science and Technology Committee both concluded that the research was sound, though they recommended improvements in transparency. Misinterpretations of specific phrases fueled the controversy, but the scientists were ultimately exonerated.

The article focuses on climate change through a political lens rather than focusing on scientific facts about what is happening to the world. The theories used are only theories therefore they are not solidified information on climate change.

This article starts off with stating it’s an opinion, showing that the writing is not based off fact. Then as we read, the author accuses the United Nations, a highly trusted international organization of silencing scientists challenging the IPCC assessment reports but does not name a single scientist. The author also does not cite any sources or research studies to back up their claim. Thus making this article false.

This article ignores the scientific facts of climate change and claims that it is a made-up phenomenon for political use. The author ignores and debates the idea of climate change without showing proof of their own to back up their claim. All of these ideas are speculations and theories that don't have any credible evidence to support them.

This claim is empirically and factually incorrect. There is a mountain of data and well researched peer revied studies on climate change and its effects. Figures and studies can be found from several sources and organizations whose sole purpose is to study the environment. As well as some without any moneyed interests. Thats not even to mention the companies who cause it knowing about it for decades such as Exon mobile for an example - https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2023/01/harvard-led-analysis-finds-exxonmobil-internal-research-accurately-predicted-climate-change/

I agree with you that this claim is false. I think that your fact check was very well done also.

You did a good job at using a credible source to back up your claim. I also think that it is noteworthy that you mentioned other reliable sources have also agreed that climate change is scientifically proven. Next time, I would suggest adding a few more links to specific sources to strengthen your claim.

After doing some research of my own, I found that climate change is very much real. According to dnv.com, 97% of climate scientists agree that the rising temperatures are due to human activity.
