This claim is from the Florida International University Science research department.  FIU is a Carnegie R1 university, meaning it is known for its research. Throughout the article it is clear that thorough research was done by the university and the team in charge of the study. Those involved seem to be reportable scientists and throughout the article there is ample evidence and hard data to back up the claim. 

Other sources, such as the New York Post, are also reporting on this claim. They are citing the FUI study, but it is still another sources talking about it.

I really think anyone curious should watch the various videos linked in the original FIU article. They're really good.

I enjoyed reading your response and thought although concise I found you did a great job of finding the truth in the claim. You used reliable sources such as .edu sources. I think it is important you noted the claim is from a research institute.
