The Harris-Walz campaign is seeking donations to beef up its recount account as a handful of key Senate and House races remain too close to call.

This claim lacks proper evidence. Fox News is a famously right wing biased news network and although your claim is technically true, it lacks proper context that could be provided with multiple sources from conflicting viewpoints.

I like that you pointed out the right wing nature of Fox news, a good source about recounts is https://www.ncsl.org/elections-and-campaigns/election-recounts they state how the common recount is at a .5% margin.

This claim is true. The Harris-Walz campaign donation page has fine print that states, "The first $41,300/$15,000 from a person/multicandidate committee (“PAC”) will be allocated to the DNC. The next $3,300/$5,000 from a person/PAC will be allocated to Harris for President’s Recount Account." However, it is not clear what the money will be used for, as neither Harris nor Walz has commented on the matter. USA Today and the Wall Street Journal have asked the Harris campaign what they intend to do with the money but have yet to hear back.

how interesting! I think that a recount was needed because of all the ballot drop boxes that were set on fire in Portland and all the people that were still waiting in line to vote! Great resources and fact check, I wonder what they did with the rest of the money.

Good fact check. Your sources are all reputable and you directly cite the reasoning from each. This information concerns the nation.

A wide range of sources is great to see! Citing ActBlue is a good inside look into the campaign finance apparatus and your summary of the campaign fine print is very insightful! I would be interested to see potential reactions to this 'recount' from both dominant US parties.

i appreciate how you used various sources to back up your answer, and information listed on the websites to prove your point. the sites you listed seem to correspond with one another and all seem to believe that the harris fundraiser will be using money from their donations for the recount. very interesting!

No this fact is not true because through CNN and other news stations have said false information about this fact. " Vice President Kamala Harris urged supporters to accept the 2024 presidential election results and committed to a peaceful transfer of power following Donald Trump’s win". (CNN

This claim is false, and the article explains why. It states, "There was no indication that Harris was seeking a recount for herself after having lost to President-elect Trump in a decisive victory in which he swept all the battleground states as well as the popular vote." And with no official quote or such from Kamala herself who has previously stated she accepted the defeat and wanted a peaceful transfer of power this claim loses even more strength. Lastly in the article, it is mentioned the Harris-Walz campaign is 20 million in debt and does not have the funds to launch a recount without mass donations from Democrats which is unlikely.

I was hesitant to trust an article from Fox News as they have previously been unreliable, so I found some additional sources that did in fact verify the campaign is putting donation money towards recounts. "The fund states on its fundraising page, which is still technically accepting donations, that after the Democratic National Committee gets the first cut of any donations 'the next $3,300/$5,000 from a person?PAC will be allocated to Harris for President's Recount Account." Morton, V. (2024, 11, 11). Harris PAC redirects donations to recount effort. The Washington Times. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/nov/11/harris-victory-fund-kamala-harris-pac-redirects-do/

The article also says "The page, according to a USA Today report, does not 'include additional details on when the recount effort will take place and who will lead the effort.'"

An additional article from NBC states "Two campaign officials said the requests are for money meant to eventually flow to the Democratic National Committee to help assist with efforts such as state recounts or curing ballots." Korecki, N. (2024, 11, 14). Clashes, confusion and secrecy consume the Harris campaign's finances. NBC News. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/kamala-harris/clashes-confusion-secrecy-consume-harris-campaign-finances-rcna179654

In summary, I was able to confirm that the original claim is true.

This is an excellent and very deep fact-check. I like how you mentioned how Fox News is known for being unreliable and biased. Both your additional sources, The Washington Post and NBC News are known for being reliable. Ad Fontes Media says "The Washington Post is known as a reliable news source." I also looked into both the authors and are both known for being reliable and writing fantastic articles.
