This is a false statement, as it misconstrues the events and reactions following the Stockport tragedy, as well as the reasons behind the riots. According to an article published by The Institute for Strategic Dialogue, there were false and inflammatory statements put into the news surrounding the tragedy, causing an uproar centered around anti-immigration. Citizen journalists published false claims saying that the suspect in the attack was a Muslim immigrant, something the police repeatedly stated was not true. Far right networks and communities took advantage of this tragedy, spread false information to associate it with immigrant crime, and caused riots that were based on false pretenses.
