Physical cash is like using free money because it doesn't have the same digital trace of being spent like the way you would use a credit card or apple pay. You also don't see the cost from the bank, and the transaction feels "free" because when the money isn't shown into the statements, it doesn't affect transactions.

For others, cash may feel like an expendable resource, giving them the sense that spending it comes without consequence. I have definitely had a similar feeling. When paying with cash, it doesn't necessarily feel "free" but it does feel less substantial than paying with a card, since it doesn't change the number in my bank account.
