Yes, the claim made in this article is true and correlates with the findings of reliable major news sources such as in this Atlantic article, as well as the actual study found here. The content of TechCrunch is generally reliable, and the author of this paper, Natasha Lomas, has an extensive journalistic and academic history. In these sort of articles, it is most efficient to verify information based on an academic study(s) by actually going to the study itself and confirming the results.

This is one of the better answers I've seen on this website. I really like how you confirmed the claim with two articles, as well as commented on the reliability of the original source. I also liked how you gave advice for factchecking these sorts of articles.

This is an excellent fact check. Not only do you cite two other reliable sources that affirm the validity of the claim, you also check the reliability of the site initially in question, including the articles author. Even the format is helpful by embedding links and still pasting the at the bottom of the comment which can help screen readers.
