This is actually true and the unicorn, while a fictional animal, has been the national animal of Scotland for centuries and many are not surprised by this as Scotland is famous for its connections and rich history to mythology. In Celtic mythology, the unicorn represents dominance and chivalry and notoriously difficult to capture, which resonated greatly with many Scots. The article you have linked comes directly from The National Trust of Scotland, so we can already assume its a legitimate source, but for further research here's a few more articles I found about the topic.

I appreciate how in-depth you went on why the unicorn is Scotland's national animal and why they ultimately chose it to represent their country. Also, I like how you noted that the source was credible and added more sources that support the claim.

At first glance, I was unsure if this claim was true but after reading your answer, my opinion changed. I like how you included some of Scotland's history surrounding mythology and even Celtic mythology as well. The extra sources attached at the bottom were helpful too!
