I'm fact checking the claim that alcohol deaths have more than doubled In recent years, especially among young women. The fact check states, “From 1999 to 2020, the number of alcohol-related deaths has nearly doubled, according to Florida Atlantic University study. A researcher and addiction specialists discuss the risk factors,” using Fox News as their source. I found research from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in which their study concludes that the mortality rate from alcohol-related causes increased from 10.7 per 100,000 people in 1999 to 21.6 per 100,000 in 2020. Thus, the total number of deaths rose from approximately 19,356 to 48,870 throughout this time period. There were significant increases across all age groups, with the highest rise in ages 25 to 34, and women have a notable increase in these statistics. This being said, the alcohol-related deaths double for over more of this lifetime. Other reliable sources, such as The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), confirm these statistics and talk about the given factor of alcohol related deaths, similarly tying these trends back to women as well. Both of these sources are reliable and unbiased because it is statistics and data.
