What research do you think went into the selection of this term for their word of the year?

This fact check is quite true. According to the published article, Brain rot refers to the "the supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material (now particularly online content) considered to be trivial or unchallenging. Also: something characterized as likely to lead to such deterioration.” This fact check is indeed true and also pretty funny.

The info is accurate. The Oxford University Press did, in fact, name 'Brain Rot' as the word of the year. "Following a public vote in which more than 37,000 people had their say, we’re pleased to announce that the Oxford Word of the Year for 2024 is ‘brain rot’. This is a direct quote from the article—very straightforward fact check.

This statement is 100% correct, going to the official Oxford University Press' website, on of the first words you'll see the is 'brain rot', jumping out in white against the deep blue background. The page even includes a link to further examination upon the word 'brain rot' and how the Oxford team ended up deciding on it.
