The original post to a Bluesky social media account, linked below this claim, is currently unavailable. The claim itself, stating that "The EU has paid billions of euros to Ukraine" lacks a significant degree of context concerning the use of said funds.

An article published to the European External Action Service website on January 15, 2025, reports that since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine "the EU and our Member States have made available close to $145 billion* in financial, military, humanitarian, and refugee assistance."

*This amount in USD converts to €141,897,000,000.

The EU has indeed payed billions of euros to Ukraine in fact the European Union official website describes it as unprecedented funding and support to Ukraine in both military and humanitarian efforts. Converted to USD for easier comprehension for American readers the union has paid over 174 billion dollars to Ukraine since the start of their war with Russia. Because the EU is a governmental agency they have to make their budget public so all records of the funds that are going out to Ukraine from the EU are exact and confirmed because it is required to be so. Additionally it was stated that the EU is looking to bring Ukraine into the union to further protect it from any future Russian threats. Therefore cementing this claims truthfulness and eliminating any bias from this heated topic.

The claim that the EU has sent billions to Ukraine is true. There is a public website that lays everything out and shows us how much is being sent. In 2024 the EU sent the first 1.6 billion to Ukraine. This money came from immobilized Russian assets but is still funds being sent to the country giving this headline a truthful narrative.

In fact, the headline doesn't do itself enough justice. In 2024, European leaders vowed to commit 54 billion dollars to Ukraine and its efforts to rebuild and revitalize it self.
