This claim was made by Jacqui Heinrich on April 29th, 2025. After investigating into Heinrich's career, she is currently serving as a Senior Whitehouse Correspondent and anchor for FOX News. It may be interesting to note FOX News' generally acknowledged conservative bias, but I personally do not know if Heinrich shares those political beliefs herself.

Upon looking into the more recent news surrounding this claim, I found it to be false. I was able to find an Associated Press article that reported that Amazon will not go through with listing the tariffs affecting their prices on their website. According to the article, this news came shortly after the White House called such an action a "hostile act" (Grantham-Phillips and Boak). It appears that the White House viewed this act by Amazon as an attempted political message to get customers upset about the tariffs taking place, causing those same customers to develop anger towards the political party in power.

The claim that Amazon will begin listing tariff impacts on product prices is false. While a report suggested that Amazon planned to display how much of an item's cost is from tariffs, Amazon clarified that this idea was considered internally for its low-cost Haul store but was never approved and will not be implemented. The White House reacted to the initial report, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt calling the purported move a "hostile and political act".

Initially Amazon considered implementing this feature which was criticized by the White House. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt labeled this move as a "hostile and political act" saying that it was an attempt to sway public opinion againts the administration's tariff policies. Amazon ultimatly decided to not proceed with the plan and current president Donald Trump. stated that Amazon found Jeff Bezos "did the right thing" by not proceeding with the plan. I say the claim is misleading because Amazon's intention to list the tariff impacts was true at the time of of Heinrich's report but it will not be implemented. https://apnews.com/video/trump-says-amazon-founder-bezos-did-the-right-thing-by-scrapping-plan-to-show-tariff-costs-eebe691b398f4b6f814d48e93dee6ca2 https://apnews.com/article/amazon-tariff-prices-trump-white-house-8598569632263872a6c04f7ef330c0fd

Claim: Amazon will begin to list the tariff impact their prices face on their website.

On April 29, 2025, Punchbowl News reported that Amazon was planning to show the cost of tariffs on product listings. This caused a strong reaction from the White House. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it a “hostile and political act” and said Amazon was siding with foreign interests. The report quickly spread through other outlets, sparking a lot of public discussion and confusion.

However, Amazon responded by saying that while the idea of showing tariff costs was talked about internally, especially for their budget section called “Amazon Haul,” the plan was never approved and will not move forward. Amazon spokesperson Tim Doyle clearly stated, “This was never approved and is not going to happen” (The Daily Herald, 2025).

In addition, former President Donald Trump said in an interview that he personally spoke to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and asked him not to move forward with this idea. According to Trump, Bezos agreed to drop the plan (Business Insider, May 2, 2025).

Even though early news reports made it sound like Amazon was planning to show tariff costs on product pages, the company officially denied it. There is no confirmed plan to list tariff impacts on their website. So, the claim is false.

According to an article by AP News, Amazon is not currently planning to show the tariff costs of products on their website. "Amazon says it’s not planning to display added tariff costs next to product prices on its site — despite a report that sparked speculation the e-commerce giant would soon show the new import charges, and the White House’s fiery comments denouncing the purported change." Along with this NPR has also confirmed that Trump and Bezos had a conversation clearing the confusion on whether or not the tariff costs of products would be on their website.

This claim is False. After President Trump and the White House felt pressure after Amazon supposedly announced that the company was going to begin displaying the additional cost being added to amazon products as imposed by Trump's tariffs, next to the original/total price of the goods/products on the site. Later, Amazon clarified that this idea was never approved or even set to be put into action, therefore maing this claim false; also backed by CNBC

This claim appears to be false. The Washington Post wrote an article saying that this claim is inaccurate. There was a report that the choice to display tariff prices was going to happen, but amazon said that this was never a real idea to put onto their service.

The White House claimed that this move was a "hostile and political act" (AP news). However it was clear this report was false and the white house took down their statement. The rumor was talked about only in a subsidiary of amazon, not actually amazon themselves.

These articles show a miscommunication about this rumor, if Amazon was going to put tariff price changes on their website, making this claim false.
