This claim cherry-picks instances of gun violence involving transgender individuals to construct an exaggerated narrative, while also conflating the mere presence of transgender people with active collusion in such crimes. The linked New York Post article highlights several recent mass shooters who purportedly had some connection to transgender people, echoing Fox News commentary that transgender mass shooters represent a dangerous and growing group. Fox host Jesse Watters, for example, claimed: “Statistically, the trans population has been prone to violence.”

That argument does not hold up under scrutiny. When PolitiFact reached out to Fox News for evidence, the network cited seven incidents of mass shootings by transgender individuals. To assess this claim, PolitiFact consulted Adam Lankford, professor and chair of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Alabama. He noted:

“I think it is reasonable to assert that, anecdotally, there have been several high-profile mass shootings committed by transgender individuals in recent years, and whether that is an aberration or a new trend has not yet been confirmed statistically.”

Further, PolitiFact emphasized that such cases make up a vanishingly small fraction of shootings overall. Using the seven incidents cited by Fox News, it calculated:

“If all seven shooting incident attackers included in Gorka and Fox News’ lists were counted, that would be seven out of 4,147 mass shootings from 2018 to 2025, based on Gun Violence Archive data — a rate of 0.17% as of Sept. 4.”

Broader research confirms this picture. A National Institute of Justice report drawing on the Violence Project database (covering mass shootings from 1966–2019) found that nearly all perpetrators were cisgender men (or at least identified as male in public records). Statista reported similarly, but included shootings as recent as from August 2025.

Turning to the assassination of Kirk specifically: the evidence to date indicates the crime was committed by a single individual, not multiple people. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old suspect, has been taken into custody. According to NPR, “police still do not know — or haven’t made public — the motive behind the deadly act.”

While Robinson was reportedly living with a transgender partner, there is no evidence that this partner was involved or that multiple “trans people and advocates” participated. On the contrary, The New York Times reported that Utah governor Spencer Cox stated:

“This partner has been incredibly cooperative, had no idea that this was happening, and is working with investigators right now.”
