This claim cherry-picks instances of gun violence involving transgender individuals to construct an exaggerated narrative, while also conflating the mere presence of transgender people with active collusion in such crimes. The linked New York Post article highlights several recent mass shooters who purportedly had some connection to transgender people, echoing Fox News commentary that transgender mass shooters represent a dangerous and growing group. Fox host Jesse Watters, for example, claimed: “Statistically, the trans population has been prone to violence.”

That argument does not hold up under scrutiny. When PolitiFact reached out to Fox News for evidence, the network cited seven incidents of mass shootings by transgender individuals. To assess this claim, PolitiFact consulted Adam Lankford, professor and chair of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Alabama. He noted:

“I think it is reasonable to assert that, anecdotally, there have been several high-profile mass shootings committed by transgender individuals in recent years, and whether that is an aberration or a new trend has not yet been confirmed statistically.”

Further, PolitiFact emphasized that such cases make up a vanishingly small fraction of shootings overall. Using the seven incidents cited by Fox News, it calculated:

“If all seven shooting incident attackers included in Gorka and Fox News’ lists were counted, that would be seven out of 4,147 mass shootings from 2018 to 2025, based on Gun Violence Archive data — a rate of 0.17% as of Sept. 4.”

Broader research confirms this picture. A National Institute of Justice report drawing on the Violence Project database (covering mass shootings from 1966–2019) found that nearly all perpetrators were cisgender men (or at least identified as male in public records). Statista reported similarly, but included shootings as recent as from August 2025.

Turning to the assassination of Kirk specifically: the evidence to date indicates the crime was committed by a single individual, not multiple people. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old suspect, has been taken into custody. According to NPR, “police still do not know — or haven’t made public — the motive behind the deadly act.”

While Robinson was reportedly living with a transgender partner, there is no evidence that this partner was involved or that multiple “trans people and advocates” participated. On the contrary, The New York Times reported that Utah governor Spencer Cox stated:

“This partner has been incredibly cooperative, had no idea that this was happening, and is working with investigators right now.”

Your fact checking is detailed and comprehensive while maintaining a thorough and consistent argument, pointing out the clear inconsistencies in the original argument. I really appreciate your emphasis on the “cherry picking” of information to feed into certain harmful narratives, as well as pointing out flat out incorrect information from biased sources like Fox News. Additionally, your use of in-text citations is great and makes your argument flow better overall.

You did a great job breaking this claim down with solid data and expert input. I like how you showed the actual numbers to put things in perspective — 0.17% really makes it clear how misleading the narrative is. You also balanced the broader stats with the specific case of Kirk, which keeps the focus grounded. Overall, this feels well-researched and fair.

This is a great, thorough response. You provided multiple sites of evidence and gave a clear supporting explanation to them. I appreciate how you address the difference between data analysis and media narratives regarding topics such as gender identity and violence. Using reliable sources such as A National Institute of Justice report and NPR build creditably and provides an extra context for a better understanding of this claim. A suggestion I have is to include how misinformation spreads among topics on gender on social media. Overall, you maintained a clear fact check with direct quotes and had a clear argument.

This claim from the New York post that the Charlie Kirk shooter was trans/a trans advocate is false. The first thing to take note of about this claim is that it comes from a biased source. The New York Post is a right leaning publication that is deemed "mixed" in terms of reliability by Adfontesmedia.com, which is a website that determines how biased and how reliable each media outlet is. With The New York Post being a right skewed newspaper, a the right wing being historically anti-trans, it shows that this article may have some biases. The article itself goes over several instances of mass shootings committed by transgender individuals. However, in their article, the New York Post is cherry picking their statistics because in reality there is no evidence of the claim that transgender individuals are more likely to commit acts of mass violence. According to Poynter's article where they disputed the claim that transgender violence was becoming an epidemic, it stated "A year ago, we examined similar claims following a deadly shooting at a Nashville, Tennessee, school. Extremism and domestic terrorism experts told PolitiFact they knew of no widespread threats of growing radicalization or violence from the trans population." For reference, Poynter is a reliable media outlet according to Adfontes. In the case of the Charlie Kirk shooting, the murder was committed by Tyler Robinson, who was not transgender. His roommate was in the process of transitioning but there is zero evidence from any credible sources that his roommate was involved with Robinson's schemes in any way. So when the New York Post called Tyler Robinson a "trans advocate," there is no evidence of that actually being true. Robinson living with a trans individual doesn't automatically mean that he is an advocate of the transgender community. For those reasons, the claims made by the New York Post are baseless and false.

The claim that the assassination of Charlie Kirk was committed by transgender individuals and advocates is an extreme assumption and is most likely to be untrue, it's essential to rely on factual information and data regarding mass shootings and the demographics of perpetrators.

The New York Post article cites a handful of examples where people who identify as transgender have committed or attempted to commit mass murders by shooting. The article attempts to prove that it's most likely possible that Charlie Kirk's assassin was transgender or a transgender advocate. These claims are cherry picked examples of the few times that transgender people have committed such acts. According to the Gun Violence Association statistics provided by factcheck.org, "transgender individuals were responsible for less than 0.1% of mass shootings in the last 12 years, according to the GVA." This data proves that the claim of the article is a broad assumption that is most likely untrue. This article is trying to villainize the transgender population because they are an easy target, it's impossible to prove the person responsible for the assassination is part of this group of people.

The assertion that Charlie Kirk's assassination was committed by transgender individuals lacks credible evidence and is contradicted by statistical data. It is crucial to approach such sensitive topics with care and rely on verified information to avoid spreading misinformation and harmful stereotypes to transgender people.
