Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most revered conservationists, who earned scientific stature and global celebrity by chronicling the distinctive behavior of wild chimpanzees in East Africa — primates that made and used tools, ate meat, held rain dances and engaged in organized warfare — died on Wednesday in Los Angeles. She was 91.

This claim is true, Jane Goodall died at 91 and her death was announced October 1st, 2025, according to National Geographic"The Jane Goodall Institute announced on October 1, 2025, that Goodall, the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, passed away of natural causes" (National Geographic). In this text National Geographic links the Jane Goodall institute's official instagram announcement that she died, the post states, "The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes". This Instagram account is verified, and the official account for both herself and the Jane Goodall Institute. Another source that reported on her death was NBC News, also stating that "She died of natural causes while she was in California as part of a speaking tour, the Jane Goodall Institute announced in a statement" (NBC News). Although NBC News does not provide a link to the announcement, by finding other sources reporting the same information such as National Geographic, the link to the Instagram post can be found.

Therefore the claim that Jane Goodall has died is backed by multiple sources such as National Geographic and NBC News which supports their claim with the announcement on Jane Goodall's own Instagram account.

You did a very nice job referencing several credible sources as well as verifying details, it was incredibly thorough.  The way you tied everything back to the original announcement shows a lot of detail and attention to credibility and accuracy.

This claim is true. Jane Goodall died at 91. It was announced on October 1st through the Jane Goodall Institute. NBC News confirmed this on October 1st, stating, "Jane Goodall, a renowned researcher who documented the behavior and social lives of chimpanzees and later became a leader of the animal conservation movement, died Wednesday." This is clear evidence from a strong trustworthy news channel, but let's turn to another source for even more insight. National Geographic confirms this claim again by stating "Primatologist, ethologist, conservationist, animal advocate, and educator Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, has died at age 91. The Jane Goodall Institute announced on October 1, 2025, that Goodall, the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, passed away of natural causes." Therefore, the information of the claim Jane Goodall died at 91 has been proved true with these sources. The reason I know this is because both of these sources are backed with the same information that aligns the story to be true. Lastly looking on social media at Jane Goodell's Instagram account it has a direct post with the message "The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes. She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

I appreciate that you researched multiple pieces of media on this topic, and cited different types of content. Your claim is very solid and I agree with it. One thing I am curious about even in my own research is you say NBC is a strong trustworthy news channel, and I agree but I am curious if I didn't know that, what would be some facts about NBC that make them a trustworthy source. All in all great job! Just reading this made me curious about this.

This claim is True. According to the sources including AP NEWS, they explained, " Jane Goodall, the intellectual, soft-spoken conservationist renowned for her groundbreaking, immersive chimpanzee field research in which she documented the primates’ distinct personalities and use of tools, has died. She was 91" (AP NEWS). Mainly known for her research and relationships with chimpanzees, Jane Goodall appeared in many documentaries and on television, as well as sharing her travels all over the world. She revolutionized and discovered more evidence that chimpanzees are closer in relationship to humans than most of us think. She advocated for environmental peace and created The Jane Goodall Foundation that restores chimpanzee habitats, improves women's health in nearby tribes, and are working with Roots and Shoots youth groups in over around 100 countries. They find practical ways to make the greatest lasting impact for people, animals and the environment. AP NEWS also shared, "The Jane Goodall Institute announced the primatologist’s death Wednesday in an Instagram post. According to the Washington, D.C.-based institute, Goodall died of natural causes while in California on a U.S. speaking tour. Her discoveries 'revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world,' it said (AP NEWS).

The claim is that Jane Goodall, a well-known conservationist, has died. The initial claim was from her own institute, the Jane Goodall Institute https://janegoodall.org/jane-goodall-renowned-ethologist-conservationist-and-animal-behavior-expert-passes-away-at-age-91/, and then it was quickly corroborated by other popular news channels such as NPR https://www.npr.org/2025/10/01/459238450/jane-goodall-primatologist-dead-91

 NBC  and the BBC https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c9qyw2ewl2nt

These were the primary sources

The sources are credible and reliable. This is not an issue that they would deliberately lie about, and since no contradicting news is out there, it has to be true. Also, the fact that lots of other pieces have been put out as tributes or memorials shows that it is a real thing that happened. Things such as her last words were revealed https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/10/06/jane-goodall-famous-last-words-netflix/86546515007/

https://www.sierraclub.org/Sierra/jane-goodall-together-we-can-change-the-world

There is nothing on claims about her being alive, and given her old age, it is very plausible that she passed on in her last public appearance. You could tell she had looked better and had been more spry. So the logical conclusion is that she has died, and the news is right. The text is a little biased, saying how good a person she was. I think she was great, but timber people and anti-activists did not support her work as much; they are in the minority. She is considered one of the most important and impactful activists for the jungle and most definitely for Gorillas. This is a true statement that is not controversial, and the user goes with the claim correct.

This claim is true. Sadly Jane Goodall passed away last week during a USA speaking tour. According to the Jane Goodall Institute, “Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, UN Messenger of Peace and world-renowned ethologist, conservationist, and humanitarian, has died at the age of 91 of natural causes” (Jane Goodall Institute). This shows that this is true because it is her own institute that is sharing this news. To double check, I read multiple other sources and every source said the same thing that she had passed away. According to NPR, “Jane Goodall, a scientist whose studies of wild chimpanzees made her a household name, has died at the age of 91, according to an announcement posted by the Jane Goodall Institute”(NPR). This is confirmed a true fact because NPR is saying she passed and they are quoting her institute. There is a connection between sources which validates the truthfulness of it. Jane Goodall broke barriers, contributed positively to the world, and was highly recognized for her work. According to CNN world, “Her field studies with chimpanzees not only broke barriers for women and changed the way scientists study animals, but documented emotions and personality traits within these primates that blurred the line between humans and the animal kingdom”(CNN World). Jane Goodall constantly donated to wildlife preserves, and protected animals against cruelty. Her legacy will live on forever.
