After taking the time to read through and analyze numerous sources, we can confidently say this claim is true. The reason we can make this claim with such confidence is because Putin did attack Ukraine for this exact reason. In accordance with the Institute for the Study of War, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilian targets on October 9th and 10th – an attack similar to those conducted by Ukraine. This attack came shortly after the Ukrainians conducted another attack on Russian nuclear power stations near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, as outlined by Reuters. Before we go any further, it is important to question the credibility of Reuters as a news source, since it has a “.com” domain. Upon conducting further research into the credibility of Reuters, we see that the source has a “fact-checking unit” within its editorial department and is a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). This means that Reuters has signed a contract under the IFCN, swearing to abide by the Code of Principles and to report on topics accurately. After determining that Reuters is a reliable news source, we proceed to find that many other international news sources are also reporting on the attacks conducted by Russia on Ukrainian nuclear stations. Some of these news sources include Al Jazeera Media Network, CNN, and The Guardian. After looking through multiple sources, we find that it is true that Putin claimed to attack Ukrainian nuclear stations. Not only is it true, but he actually did carry out an attack just mere days after making this claim.

This is such a great analysis! The sources you used were very good. I do wonder about the likeliness of this however actually happening. Does it have any more substance other than something that Putin just said? I wonder if this is more of a scare tactic than anything, as while there would be expected retaliation, would this necessarily incite nuclear retaliation? I think that it is debatable as there are much more implications with a nuclear attack. But, otherwise, I agree, I think there will be retaliation from the Russian side, but whether or not it will be nuclear is debatable.

Wow, great in-depth summary of what went down. I think it was Putin who was going to do the attack, either way, but that is a personal take. In the original post, it says that Zelensky is ramping it up. I think that is a falsehood provided by russian media. Also there is no nuclear catastrophe, luckily like the post warned there would be after the attack. Not trying to justify the attack that is a low play in war but that's on par with Russia. The way you use your sources and check them all the way upstream is reassuring because info from this war can be misleading.
