There isn't just one way to use AI in schools, so there isn't an exact answer to this one. According to Project Zero, a series of studies conducted by Harvard Graduate School of Education, lots of students use AI for a wide variety of reasons. There are good ways to use AI, such as brainstorming or helping bring up questions the user might not have thought about on their own. These kinds of uses can act as a sort of tutor, guiding the user rather than doing the work for them. However, there are negative uses to AI as well. In a study conducted by MIT, they tested the difference between how brains were reacting when writing an essay, comparing the use of OpenAI and Brain-only groups. The study showed that those who used AI to offload the nitty-gritty of the essay aren't learning as much as someone who does the research themselves.
