For example, the costs of living are much higher in California than in Oregon.  According to Nerd Wallet’s Cost of Living Calculator, when comparing Portland, Oregon to San Francisco, California, housing costs are 80% higher and food costs are 14% higher in San Francisco.  Overall, the cost of living in San Francisco is 42% higher.  The financial difference may be a drawback to some, but for others it is a sacrifice they are willing to make in order to live in California. 

Aside from finances, there are other differences that can be used to compare the 2 states.  According to Wallet Hub, in a ranking of happiest states in the US, California ranks 7 whereas Oregon ranks 39.  In a public school ranking published by World Population Review, Oregon ranks 31st in public school education and California ranks 32nd, which makes them very close. 

Overall, the claim that California is a better place to live in Oregon remains an opinion based statement, but using the statistics above, it can be used to help compare and decide what state is the best personal fit.

The news source U.S.News is very reliable, and I think that it backs up your point well. However, this is an opinion statement, so it depends on the individual for which place they like more. Many biases can play into ideas like this, saying one place is better than another. One could make the statement that after searching through many articles and responses on the internet, it shows that People like living in California more; however, it’s based on online results. An article that could be useful is Why do people pick to live in places in California over Oregon. However, this does not exist because in something like that, there will always be a bias. A survey taken online by many people in Oregon and California could definitely be better because it shows a broader average of people’s opinions. Also, it fully depends on what you are looking for specifically, such as the weather, housing prices, city life, culture, economics, etc.
