From my research I found that this was true and did happen. In the UK they used genetic material from three people to prevent devastating and often fatal conditions. The method they used was to combine the egg and sperm from a mom and dad with a second egg from a donor woman. This technique has been legal for a decade but now they have the first proof that it is leading to children born free of incurable mitochondrial disease. Children born through the three-person technique inherit most of their DNA from their genetic blueprint, but also get a tiny amount, about 0.1% from the second woman.
