After the murder of outspoken anti-crime mayor, Carlos Manzo, violent protests have broken out in the Mexican state of Michoacan. Killed while partaking in the festivities of the Day of the Dead celebration, along with the killing of Bernardo Bravo Manriquez, head of a local citrus growers association in the city of Apatzingan. The killings of two men who were a part of different aspects of society show how violence has infected every part of Michoacan life. A senior Mexico analyst at the International Crisis Group reported to CNN that the protests are "an honest reaction of the citizens of Michoacan... who for many years have been living under a context of extreme insecurity and high violence."
