Japan sent soldiers to Akita because bear attacks are rising. Since April, at least 12 people have died and over 100 have been hurt. Brown and black bears are coming near schools, train stations, and homes while looking for any food before winter. Soldiers help by setting traps, taking hunters to bears, and getting rid of dead bears. They cannot shoot the bears. The problem is worse because many people in Akita are old, so fewer can help with the bears.
The bears have hurt people and farms. Farmers lost many apples. Since May, over 50 people have been attacked and at least 4 died. There are more bears and fewer people to stop them. Experts say that rising bear population and rural depopulation make it difficult to control the issue. The bears are not in danger. Some must be killed to keep people safe. Soldiers can help, but their main duty is defending their country.
