Rapper Ye publicly met with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto and, in a video shared by the rabbi, expressed remorse for his earlier hateful comments about Jewish people. He said that he’s dealing with bipolar disorder which sometimes “takes ideas and pushes them to the extreme” and that he now wants to take accountability for what he’s said.
He stressed that this is just “the beginning” of rebuilding trust and that he appreciated being received “with open arms.” Given Ye’s well-publicized history of antisemitic remarks (including praise for Hitler and selling swastika-related merchandise) , what he plans to do will make you wonder. The article points out how his past actions carried major consequences, and so even though this meeting may mark a shift, many will still wonder if this is a genuine change or a PR stunt. It doesn’t fix what came before, but it does open up the possibility of him trying to make amends.
