This is a quote from Trump, and is actually not true. Although Walmart's 2025 Thanksgiving basket is roughly 25% less expensive (~$40) than its 2024 version (~$55), this is primarily due to the newer meal's substitution of less expensive store-brand items for fewer items (15 vs. 29). Fact-checkers claim that the real price decrease is only about 6.5%, not 25%, when comparing a like-for-like collection of products.

This claim is not true. Donald Trump was the one to claim that the thanksgiving meals at Walmart are cheaper but he did not mention that the thanksgiving meals were smaller in comparison to previous years. The Thanksgiving meals being smaller means that yes, the prices will go down, but this claim is misleading because it causes the public to think that the prices for the items decreased. When in fact, it was only the portions and the items you get from this package are what actually decreased. In previous years, Walmart held about 29 items for their thanksgiving dinner but now it's only 15 items. So yes, a significant decrease in prices are to be expected.
