During a shutdown, many government services close or slow down, and thousands of workers don’t get paid. The Senate is now working to end the shutdown by negotiating a funding bill that both parties can support. Senators are trying to reach a compromise to reopen the government and make sure essential programs and services continue running because a lot of places have started to lose workers like the airlines.
