What’s actually happening is that the government passed a law that could force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban. The deadline has been pushed back because TikTok is fighting the law in court, so nothing is final yet. That’s why posts that say it’s already banned are misleading. 

Most reliable news sources explain that the situation is still unfolding. There might be a ban in the future, but as of now, users can still download and use the app normally. The main argument behind the possible ban is data privacy, but the courts haven’t made a final decision. Because of that, saying “TikTok is getting banned across the United States in 2025” overstates what we actually know.

Other articles such as, Whitehouse.gov, cnn.com, and bbc.com all claim that this ban was been solved as the app has been bought by a US company. This new ownership structure allows for TikTok to remain available to the American population.

According to the White House, BBC, and The Guardian, said that following a hearing about the banning of TikTok on September 17, 2025 President Trump has only signed a 90 day extension to the ban pushing the decision to another hearing on an upcoming date of December 16, 2025. As stated by Donald Trump, "I issued Executive Order 14350 (Further Extending the TikTok Enforcement Delay), further delaying the Act’s enforcement until December 16, 2025." This 90 day extension gave TikTok extra time to  find someone to buy their company before being banned here in the US. It is quoted on the article released by Whitehouse.gov that "During this period, the Department of Justice shall take no action to enforce the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act". This means that during the decision process through out the stages the government can not tamper with TikTok the social media app. Nothing is confirmed but there has been a rumor to where a U.S company would purchase TikTok allowing it to remain in use in the United States.

After researching the topic, I conclude that this claim is misleading. There is no concrete evidence that TikTok will be banned for sure in 2025. Although TikTok was briefly banned, it has returned as of now.

Although yes, the ban on TikTok was attempted, Trump signed an extension for the company. According to the white house, the Department of Justice is unable to get in the way of the app operating distribution or maintenance (The White House). This means that the government can't restrict TikTok as of now while they are in the extension period.

Also on the BBC, the law banned the company until it sold it to a parent company, which is what it did to ensure the availability of the app for American users (BBC).

In conclusion, this claim is misleading because there is no certainty that TikTok will be banned in 2025, although it contains some facts.

After further research, I have concluded that this claim is misleading and there is no mention of tiktok getting banned in 2025. Although it was shortly banned in January 2025, it was only for around 20 hours and has been back ever since. According to the white house and BBC, the tiktok enforcement has been signed multiple times to extend the use of tiktok this year. As of now there is no solid evidence that says tiktok will be banned.
