Under the Donald Trump administration, thousands of parents and guardians of immigrant children were arrested due to immigrant crackdowns. Some of these arrests occurred despite the adults having no criminal record, which raises questions about the unfair treatment of immigrants currently. This could lead to families of these migrant children not coming forward to care for them, leading to furthar traumas for these families.

I was not able to access the link due to the need of a subscription, but I did find relevant information on the matter that affirms that this claim is true:

https://tracreports.org/immigration/quickfacts/ Demonstrates in a graphic manner the percentage of detentions of people with no criminal record as of January 25, 2026. The number goes well above the thousands. Some of them have minor offenses like traffic violations, but no incriminating crimes.

https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/report/deportations-dark/ Contains information from interviews conducted to 600 detainees regarding the treatment they experience while waiting to be deported, such as not being able to read documents they signed, not receiving a copy of their deportation documents, etc.

https://apnews.com/article/immigration-courts-arrests-trump-ice-deportations-fa96435d4ec021cc8ff636b23d80d848 This source shows the specific case of Juan Serrano who was arrested by federal agents waiting outside the courtroom, detailing on how his family and neighbors are dealing with the situation. This source may contain some slight liberal bias.

While CNN often favors the left, it is most likely that they are reporting this information because it aligns most with their ideals (being against unfair deportations and detainments), and they source themselves from credible sites.

This claim is true, hundreds of family’s have been negatively affected by the Trump administration and its peruse to separate young children from their family’s, and putting them in to government custody. According to a CNN article there has been a major focus on these children crossing the border during the Biden administration and an emphasis on the Trump Administration to reverse these actions. Most recently there are been numerous operations including the targeting of parents, Gardians, and potential care takers of these children coming in at nearly 3000 arrests provided by federal data that was then revised by CNN. Operations included ICE taking over local authorizes and conducting welfare checks to immigrant family’s resulting in these arrests. Along with providing homeland security agents with sponsors to arrest anyone that is unlawfully in the United States, used a smuggler or, have any records of criminal history resulting in many children in “limbo or potentially back in US custody” stated by the CNN article. Within these efforts there has been reports of children wanting to sacrifice themselves and stay within detention due to the fear they have for their family’s.
