In his recent interview with CBS News, 60 Minutes, President Trump claimed that he stopped eight wars during an eight-month period during his second term. The wars he listed were Cambodia and Thailand, Kosova and Serbia, the Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Israel and Iran, and Israel and Hamas. He also stated that it would be 9 wars including Russia and Ukraine, but Putin has been difficult to work with. Trump claims he was able to stop the wars through tariffs and trade, saying without them he "wouldn't have been able to make the deals". Trump's role and success in addressing and fixing these conflicts is majorly debated because he was involved in arranging ceasefires and peace agreements, but many of these conflicts were resolved by the countries directly (India and Pakistan), were not even considered wars (Egypt and Ethiopia), or are continuing to happen (The Congo and Rwanda). Trump has overall been extremely vague and general when referring to the wars he has actually ended, blurring the facts of his role and what he has done for significant foreign conflicts.

Besides the Israel-  Iran war, as well as the Armenia- Azerbaijan, Donald Trump has not truly ended 8 wars. Five of the other six still are in conflict, and India heavily disputes the claim that trump and the U.S. had any part of ending their conflict with Pakistan. Where his claim comes from is the fact that in the other five, fighting did stop for a second, but later resumed in all. Cambodia and Thailand ended their ceasefire and kept fighting. Kosovo and Serbia was never really a "war," but he helped in his first term. Congo and Rwanda are still fighting. Egypt and Ethiopia is not a war either, it is a diplomatic dispute of the Nile River. Lastly, Isreal and Hamas are still very much in conflict based off recent reports.

The claim made by President Donald Trump is easily fact-checked with a simple Google search, which would show that he did not end 8 wars. The only wars Trump has successfully ended would be the war between Israel and Iran, as he helped to bring the countries to a ceasefire. The second war he helped to end was between Armenia and Azerbaijan as he helped to secure a peace deal between the two countries. The other 6 six wars that Trump claims to have "ended" are either still ongoing or the countries do not attribute Trump as helping end them. Such as the war between India and Pakistan, where the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, claims that Trump did not affect the peace talks between the two countries. Other wars like Israel and Hamas, DR Congo and Rwanda are still ongoing despite Trump's supposed ending of them, as Israel continues to occupy and kill Palestinian citizens, and M23, a rebel group backed by Rwandan forces, is still controlling parts of eastern DR Congo. Based on my research, I have found that Trump's claim is false and very misleading.

The claim that "President Trump has ended 8 wars during an 8-month period in his second term" is false according to many news sites that have begun fact-checking Trump. Although the U.S. has supported the end of wars, many of which are still in conflict. According to an article written by the BBC, Trump helped administer a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. While Pakistan has endorsed Trump's claim, India downplayed Trump's role in the agreement. According to The Times, the DRC and Rwanda  "signed an agreement on December 4 to end 30 years of conflict after American mediation" through a U.S. brokered peace deal. However, the BBC writes that "Since the latest deal, both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire and the M23 rebels", making President Trump's claims of ending the war false. In addition, Trump claimed to end a war between Egypt and Ethiopia, but according to the two countries, there was no war to be stopped. Both Egypt and Ethiopia had disputes over a hydroelectric dam that Trump had "taken credit for ensuring the dispute has not escalated into a war," according to The Times. With these findings in mind, it is clear that President Trump's claims are false.

The claim that President Trump has ended 8 wars is untrue. Trump claims to have ended wars between Israel and Hamas, Israel and Iran, Pakistan and India, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Serbia and Kosovo. Most of these conflicts are not "ended," and are on potentially temporary terms of peace. For Israel and Iran, the conflict is ongoing and threats of striking are still active.

Egypt and Ethiopia were not at war during Trump's presidency. It is not a war and therefore could not have been ended. Similarly, Serbia and Kosovo were never in war either during either term of Trump's presidency.

The conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda is also not solved and definitely not ended by Trump.
